Valvoline R&P Oil Burner Test Results

Gasoline is the main culprit of the ring lands getting stuck because it fills up with carbon. Gasoline, especially low-octane fuel, is cheap for a reason: it contains very little to no detergents. Personally, I use a fuel system cleaner twice between oil changes, maybe more often. It seems to help. I would definitely keep using Valvoline R&P and also use some fuel system cleaner, maybe Techron High Mileage or something similar. Red Line SI-1 is very good. PEA has a tendency to clean those carbon deposits.
There are required federal minimums wrt detergents.

I'm 3000kms into my first OCI of VRP and it's wild when you start the two ATS's side by side. The 2017 with M1 0w40 is so much quieter on start. The 2014 sounds like a bag of ball bearings when starting it in comparison!

I'm going to perform an oil change and cut the filter open in the next 1000kms. Considering this car is 11 years old, and burns no oil that I could tell, I'm not expecting anything other than a feel good "why not clean her up" experience. It'll be interesting to see if the filter has anything in it.

I'll run 2 more OCI of 4-5,000 kms and then switch her over to 0w40 also.

Which engine in those two? I’ve got an LY7 3.6 in my 08 CTS.
