As far as the excessive flags for roughing the QB, sorry, but they're necessary. Why? Because football, more than any other sport, is dependent on the play of one person, the QB. Lose an NFL QB, and a team's season might well be over after the third game. Just ask the 49ers right now with Garoppolo lost for the rest of the season. His replacement? C.J. Beathard, who led the team to a 1-9 record last year.
An equally significant issue, at least at the college (and high school) level, is the decreasing number of competitive games. Many of these games televised on Saturdays are over after the first eight minutes. If Alabama or Ohio State gets up on an opponent 14-0 in the first quarter ... I'm sorry, but 99% of the time the game is over, so I'm switching channels.
