Something needs to be done with truckers

Without trucks, Walmart would shut down, then where would we buy our oil and filters then..................and no more food...

^^^ if you bought it, a truck brought it ^^^

I don't like the fact truck drivers or those who have C.D.L's have a .05 blood alcohol level. I mean that's like 2 drinks..

^^^^ Can you enlighten us a little more on your 'fact'? ^^^^

So what if they haul stuff everyone buys ... doesn't give them an excuse to be unprofessional drivers. There is no excuse (except for blatant inexperience and stupidity) for being a bad driver, regardless who it is and what the vehicle is.

At the risk of beating a dead horse. Unless you actually do something you are just a whiner. Call the Highway Patrol in the states you drive. Explain it as a safety issue. If the first call doesn't get results, make more calls. Eventually, they'll listen. Truckers have forums and talk. If a few get ticketed for obstructing traffic, others will hear about it.

I don't like the fact that you're treated differently just because you have a CDL...even when you're not driving a semi...I had a cop pull me over a couple years ago (while driving my car) for overtaking another car on a two lane road. He said I got up to 65 in a 55 while I was passing and that was too fast. As soon as he saw my CDL he said "oh, you have a CDL, huh? You know I could throw the book at you and you'd lose your license." He let me off with a warning....I don't know if the laws are different for CDL holders, but I don't see why we should be treated any differently than any other license holder when we're driving our POVs...we shouldn't be...

That's always the stance of the pro-truckers. I guess they believe that because truckers have a sucky job, and they haul everything that's sold, that entitles them to own the roads and drive like a-holes...

[off-topic]
qwerty1234, I would prefer for you to concentrate/focus on your recovery and not every legal stuff alcohol related.
reason: i lost my dad to liver/stomach cancer. and he even wasn't a drinker or smoker. just worked in chemical industry years ago.
I would hate for you to be just another guy to pass. I would like you to be in 30 years the old guy that seen it all, teaching the neighborhood kids real life stuff. you know they need it.
and i work from time to time in your neighborhood.
if I were you, I would take Phishin offer.

There you go again, labeling all truck drivers as a-holes. It seems you accepted the leniency of the cop who let you off with a warning, yet you felt that you should have been given a ticket anyway. If you had explained your feelings to the cop, he might have obliged you with a ticket, and you wouldn't have come off as a hypocrite.

Would you mind explaining yourself? I don't understand much of your last post, except I've never called ALL truckers a-holes. I believe I've been very specific about which ones are the a-holes. If you don't drive like that, then you aren't one of them. None of your post about me being a hypocrite makes any sense...

The cop let you off with a warning when he saw you had a CDL license. You accepted the warning, yet you felt like you shouldn't have been treated any differently than any other driver when driving your POV. If you had told the cop that you deserved a ticket, and not to let you off with a warning just because you were CDL licensed, he might have obliged, but you chose to accept the warning. Hence, the hypocrisy.

And now we discus/argue in circles.

Not all truckers are A-Holes, but those who are, are deadly with those big rigs.

Not all 4 wheelers are A-Holes, but those who are, are deadly also, but to a lesser degree because of their lack of size.

http://www.cjbk.com/local-news/2015/11/06/fatal-crash-on-highway-401-near-putnam

Quote:
OPP are investigating a fatal crash on Highway 401 near Putnam Road that happened around 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Middlesex OPP Const. Lisa Narancsik says, "It was the result of a motor vehicle travelling westbound [that] was struck by a tire that flew off the transport trailer that was travelling eastbound."

After jumping the concrete median, the tire struck the front windshield of an Acura on the driver's side.

The woman driving the car was killed and emergency crews say it would have been almost instant.

The transport driver was apparently unaware of what had happened and continued along the 401 for some time until being stopped by police. The vehicle is now being held as part of the police investigation.

Traffic was re-routed onto the westbound side at Putnam Road for several hours, but all lanes of the highway were fully re-opened around 11:30 a.m.

After a series of incidents in the mid-1990s, heavy penalties were introduced, along with more intensive inspections of commercial vehicles by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO).

Narancsik says, "Transports have to come in and get things checked, there are requirements, and if transports are found to be not up to safety standards, then of course there will be charges, or trucks will be removed from the highway."

As a result, unsafe vehicle convictions for truckers have dropped from 710 annually in 2006 to 306 in 2012, according to MTO statistics.

And while reports of truck wheels coming off have dropped dramatically, there has been a troubling reversal in recent years:

-1997 - 215 reports of wheels coming loose
-2010 - 47 reports of wheels coming loose
-2012 - 97 reports of wheels coming loose
The driver of the car has been identified as 50-year-old Kimberley Coordes of South-West Oxford Township.

The hypocrisy was with what the police officer said. When a CDL holder is driving a POV and gets pulled over, they shouldn't be treated as though they're driving a semi just because they have CDL on their license...

Nonsense. One angry soccer mom can get the police to slow drivers down around the fields. There's no reason why your voice would be ignored. It's a law in Ohio to keep right except to pass. If a petition is what's needed, do it.

For the record, I agree with you about the odd laws for treating CDL holders differently.
