Potential winter storm this week.

In Ohio, I have come to the conclusion that this storm, being bad has been blown way out of proportion by the news media. The Ohio Governor declaring a state of emergency and telling people to stay at home. I remember the "storm of the century" back in 1993. This present storm is a baby compared to that one. People yesterday were panic buying $400+ worth of groceries and store shelves here are empty. I have believed in preparation but this is ridiculous.

The media loves these storms because it gets viewers and boost ad revenue. Even if you aren't, a lot of us are tuning in our local news station. At least the reporters are no longer demonstrating if you have enough tread depth by using a penny like they did every snow event in the past.

The problem being its like the boy that cried wolf when a real one comes along.

However I will say the storm is impressive given its size - like half the country. So maybe no record in any one place but snow from Dallas to Long Island in a weekend is quite an event.

It wasn't supposed to freeze here but it is now - so maybe we get some before its over also.

It did! 6 speed manual and I kept the options list rather low to save weight. I just ordered t-roofs and the Goodyear GSC tires. It cost me $31,000 Canadian. It was quick in the quarter mile! 12.68 at 109.4 mph with simple (cheap or free) mods and drag radials

So far the storm is a nothingburger here in southwestern Virginia - 1.5" of snow and sleet with no icing, temperature of 9°F. Suppose to get more icing this afternoon, so we'll see.

It will take a bit more than some snow to crack the '70 Lafite and Léoville Las Cases. I drank all the rest of the '70 Bordeaux classified growths over the years. Still hanging on to a '69 Grands-Echezeaux and some Ports from the '60s.
 
Im having a LAUGH watching the news media on TV trying to make a story out of this storm.
It's nothing like the day before hype but we all buy into it and its fun but ... I knew the day before when out of all the hype when one forecaster briefly mentioned a "little dry air from the north" has infiltrated the system. He blew it right off but I knew better.

Anyway, all good in the Carolina's Im watching pop tart reporter on the news tell us to listen to the crunch as you walk on the 2 inches of snow in Charlotte. *LOL*

Lights are on in Greenville SC, Spartanburg SC and the upstate so far as well as the upstate of North Carolina. I am not saying this will not be a bad storm for some who do get ice but nothing like reported yesterday. They are all converging on Nashville because there are outages there. I would expect some upstate areas of SC and NC will still get more icing but who knows, except its not like forecast so far.
On the NC coast we have a light coating of ice on everything.

With proper tires. I'm sensible enough to realize the tires on it now are absolutely garbage. They have a decent amount of tread, but are poor excuse for an all season. That and I don't want to get all the salt up under it.

The truck is undercoated, has some nice 3 peak all terrains, and plenty of ground clearance. While not snow tires, they're sufficient enough for my area.

Just got off the phone with my son in south/eastern Spartanburg SC, which was part of the area that was supposed to be devastated along a line of Greenville SC and Charlotte NC forecasts up to 3/4 inch of ice to maybe even one inch.

Nothing, same as you, about 1.5 inches of snow and sleet. Sleet came down heavy he said for a while last night.

There was a hint by one forecaster that I picked up yesterday, he mentioned a little dry air moving in affecting moisture but blew it off right away because he had to keep the narrative. It is true later another possible band but they are REALLY struggling to make more of the storm then there is.
Sure there will be some worse areas but one has to remember yesterday's forecasts of disaster everywhere.
 
During the 1993 storm I worked an overtime shift for the local utility company clearing access to sub-stations. I finally get off of work and the roads are really bad. About 10 inches or so of heavy snow and only a few tire tracks in the snow and its getting dark. I had 4 good Blizzaks on my 79 Regal and it had a posi-traction rear-end. I'm goind down Beaver Avenue about 10 miles per hour and there is not another car in sight. I see something ahead in the middle of the road and when I get closed it's a woman pushing a baby stroller with a small child in it. I stop and ask her where does she have to go to, ( thinking what Im really asking is how big of a detour will this be ). She tells me and its actually very close to my house, on a road parallel to a road I normally take to get home. I tell her where I live and tell her to get in while I load the stroller in my trunk. She says, will you pick up my husband, he's walking ahead with the baby? I said sure. I could not see him then because of the snow. About a hundred yards more I stop and he has the baby inside his coat. He gets in and I explain I'll take yens to your house, and where I live near by.

I park in front of their apartment and he and I help her and the kids get in inside. He comes back out and as we unload the stroller I say to him, don't ever take your kids out in weather like this again. He said that the kids had doctor appointments and the weather was not supposed to get that bad. After they left the doctors office the bus never showed up. He offered me some money and I told him keep it.

Next week, a case of beer appeared on my front porch.
