Most significant common cars of, lets call it the "Modern" period

I am just going to go with a couple of groups. I don't think one car except for maybe the Prius or a Tesla was ground braking enough to matter.
But mini vans and pickup trucks have changed what people drive and buy. The Mini Van essentially became the SUV/CUV and pickups, well I can't believe how man they sell.

I appears to be in time. I haven’t checked compression since I forgot to bring my gauge from work. However I did come across a strange switch under the dash near the fuse panel today I think it could be a kill switch I called my teacher and he didn’t know anything about it. You can see it near the fuse panel.

On a Ford Escort/most Ford's that could or would be a fuel cut-off switch and it would be in the trunk. Hit a pothole hard enough.. car shuts off. May have been why my LTC never started back up. Never did get the chance to find out...

Your Love Bug is most awesome!

My first VW was a water cooled or wasserboxer engine. I really liked that car too. Had a small pic of a castle on the side, lol...
EDIT: Okay I think it was a 1.6 not a Wasserboxer but that was one I was looking at. It was, however, water-cooled.

Always wanted the 911 SC, whichever one was the one with a water cooled block and air cooled heads or if I remember that correctly .

Cool lol. Trav helped me determine it is the rear window defroster switch he pulled up the owner’s manual to it and showed me. And cool on the cars I am not too familiar with those. Lol

I remember the Toyotas a little differently. In late 90s, the T100 and then the T150 were.. valiant efforts, maybe, but 7/8 the size of a real truck (F-150 and 1500s) and pretty much dead in the water.

Explorer, Cherokee and S-10 4-door S10 Blazer/S15 Jimmy I remember as 1988 on forward across all three. Maybe 1989, 4 door Blazer in 1991 but that was HUGE in the 90s. Everybody had one..
More referring to the newer model change of the Tundra, going back to 2007ish.

Regarding the Explorer, in those years I thought it was a step forward compared to the S10 and Cherokee. I thought it was a bit different. The S10 I thought just wasn’t at that level...and the Cherokee became much more popular with the grand Cherokee restyle. IMO.

If I ever find a Grand Cherokee Limited with a 4.0 in it, I am driving it into the ground. I think 1993s through 1996 ? were this.

Never did like the 5.2. I would buy a 5.9 (1998 single year model.)

Did drive an Explorer. Liked it. Would possibly buy a 5.0 Mountaineer or Explorer...

Yeah the 4.0 was legendary. Seen quite a few with super high mileage. Funny thing is I’ve heard a lot of good things about the newer 3.6 pentastar engines too.

I have a Cherokee with the 4.0 in it. It has been sitting for years because the engine blew at 100,000 it would over heat after it turned off. We are never buying another Chrysler product again plus it was full of electrical problems.

So your 4.0 needs a head gasket?

We had a mechanic look at it and say the block had warped from getting so hot. It was a Cherokee specialist that looked at it and me and my dad had originally thought it was a head gasket but when I took it apart the gasket was fine so I put it back together with the new gasket since we had already taken it apart and it done the same thing that’s when we took it to the specialist and he looked at it and said the block was warped so it needs a new block.

The Explorer was probably the biggest, most well funded effort to merge trucks and cars into one "utility" vehicle, and they really did come up with a great product. Two things played a big role; first the Cherokee came out and sold well, and was the only 4 door vehicle like that aside from the weird AMC Eagle wagons that were never high volume, but maybe before their time. Second, when the Bronco II was released, sales took off like they never expected, I remember reading they were twice what was projected and Ford couldn't make them fast enough. When the Explorer was released, it basically immediately became the best selling vehicle in the category.

The interiors are really functional and well designed, and aside from the boxy appearance, the body is more like the Taurus than Ranger if you look at the doors and windshield. They looked good, drove good, were comfortable, and despite the reputation of the A4LD, were pretty reliable.

Sadly I lost my 1994 in a wreck a couple weeks ago. 257,000 miles, ran and drove perfect until an idiot pulled out right in front of me. Best truck I've ever owned, I wasn't hurt despite no air bags. Looking for another, hopefully a 91-94, but may settle for 95-01. It's at Copart if anyone wants a great parts truck.
