Increase valve train noise

Time for VR1 20W50 and a quart of Lucas just to make sure.

I noticed that years ago with my wife's 08 Liberty, which was always parked in a garage close to a wall. It's real easy to detect noise inside a garage. No point in me mentioning the brand of oil, but I can say it made more noise using that brand oil in the same viscosity as the prior brand. I switched back after running it one OCI and didn't look back.

The Tacoma 2GR FKS V6 has both port and direct injection. At low speed and idle, the port injectors are running and you may be hearing just the port injectors ticking.

The 2.4 Mivec engine in my 19 Mitsubishi Outlander is by nature a noisy engine, I use penzoil platinum and ultra Platinum and it seems to slightly quite the noise down a little, I used Mobil 1 and it seems louder...My engine spec is 0W20

of all the engine oils I have used Royal Purple 5w-30 pcmo was the nice and smooth and the quietest and Mobil 1 was very clattery, depends on the engine and don't rule out injector noise among other engine sounds.
Same here using Mobil 1, I hear the chatter more with That particular oil.

A little story on how noise works: years ago I bought an entry level Canyon 4 door. Lots of road noise. So I started putting Dyna mat in the front doors - now what’s this new noise. Need some under carpet. What’s that new sound now? Need some in rear doors - now, behind the rear seat and so on … Even, repeated this cycle with CCF …
Same under a hood - make any sound change and something else will be heard …

Last oil change I put in Pennzoil ultra platinum 0w20 replacing the QS 0w20 in my 2019 Tacoma V6. Previous the valve train noise had been hardly noticable with the hood down. Few days ago in a drive thru, so near a wall, with window down the valve noise was very noticeable. I'm a simi regular so I think I would have noticed this noise before this oil change, every 6 month btw. I noticed on pouring the oil in it was noticeable thinner than any oil I ever used but that thin.
I think there's probably more moly content in the QS which may quiet things down a bit more.

I’ve always had a little noise on our 18 rogue using valvoline and a fram or bosch filter. I recently started using schaeffers and a champ xl and I noticed it’s gone. One or the other eliminated it, although I was never concerned.

There are several oil brands that I have used lately and in the past that cause some valve train noise. Not loud, just auditable more so than with other brands. I have my favorite go-to brands & grades of oils so I just stick with them. They're all held in high regards here at BITOG so, I can't go wrong with my choices.

Using PENNZOIL Ultra Platinum 0w-20 ( S.P. ,GF-6A ) with the Hyundai/Kia 26300-35505 oil filter for first O.C. at 612 miles and it's quite quiet .
up its good oil, one of the better ones on the market and affordable.

The extra Moly the QS has was keeping your Taco Quiet . But with the thinnest of the GTL base stock Pennzoil uses maybe why you hearing louder noises

Just up the grade if you think it’s viscosity related. Buy some Quaker State Euro at Walmart and see what it does or doesn’t do. It’s a good oil for that engine.

Forget the additives and forget expensive oil. If the grade is not related to the noise you’ll know it.
Would using a 5w20 help ?

@faltic

1) Drive thru food is not a healthy choice. I'm disappointed in you.

2) Oil and engine noise: When has oil ever said, "I'm here to make your engine less noisy"?

I'm a witness to talking oils that make engines less noisy.
As a bonus, it costs 50% less than a noisier boutique oil

I'm a driveway mechanic, and I'm on bobistheoilguy.com. I'm not going to presume to explain to anyone how oil works, how it is supposed to work and what its function is. If you're using oil to quiet your engine, I wish you the best of luck. Maybe one of our tribologists would comment and fill us both in.

Merry Christmas. :)
