Increase valve train noise

Last oil change I put in Pennzoil ultra platinum 0w20 replacing the QS 0w20 in my 2019 Tacoma V6. Previous the valve train noise had been hardly noticable with the hood down. Few days ago in a drive thru, so near a wall, with window down the valve noise was very noticeable. I'm a simi regular so I think I would have noticed this noise before this oil change, every 6 month btw. I noticed on pouring the oil in it was noticeable thinner than any oil I ever used but that thin.

Sure looked thinner
Well unless you change back to QS 0W20 and go back to the drive thur, near a wall, with your window down. You'll never know.
I checked around, the QS 0w-20 is actually thinner at 100* at 8.3 CST vs the Pennzoil's 8.8.

I would guess you'd have to take @oldhp's post and see if it sounds the same. It may not prove much, but should quell your curiosity.

My Nissan VQ40's are famous for valve noise. Solid lifters, no adjustment.

I ran castrol magnatec for a long time in the Frontier without issue. They stopped making magnatec so I tried Edge in the same 5W-30 viscosity and it was noticeably louder. I switched to M1 next change and it went away again?

Some oils are just not the same with some engines.

Drive through at a BBQ place (cinder block wall) and my Pentastar sounds like a PowerStroke … 0W20 or 5W30 …
i know what will fix all your problems

Increased engine noise - only 1.5k into my new oil change, occurred when I least expected it. There's no guarantee boutique oils containing Group 4 & 5 esters, PAO and GTL bases, will instantly assure a continuous quiet engine. It may do the exact opposite and create a louder sounding engine.

We almost always pay more for the boutique oil's improved cleaning and improved wear protection abilities and never take the time to listen for any engine sound differences.

My quietest engines have always been using Group 2 and 3 motor oils. Experimenting with the boutique oils hasn't produced enough gratification for me yet. It's possible it never will, especially since I do many decades of short OCIs.

of all the engine oils I have used Royal Purple 5w-30 pcmo was the nice and smooth and the quietest and Mobil 1 was very clattery, depends on the engine and don't rule out injector noise among other engine sounds.

facility...
Up until Triple Action came aboard Mobil-1's EP lineup and ESP originated, I thought Mobil-1 was a loud motor oil also.

Not anymore. That's why formulations change constantly and the industry (for the most part) keeps improving the recipes.
