I was a victim of road rage

I have actually seen two deadly crashes at the very same intersection where people took off instantly without looking when light changed to green and were slammed into by vehicles (one a dump truck / other was a van) that were going so fast to either try and beat the light or who where going so fast they could not stop if they wanted to.

The last accident I saw there , the "light jumper/runner" lost her life. I know most of us have done it. I have and the wife has sure let me know she is not happy when I have done it. Well , this lady in the van tried to beat the light and failed. Already she was driving at a high rate of speed , likely well over the limit, she slammed into a young girl in a Mustang that was turning onto the highway , her light had just turned green. The van actually broke the Mustang in half. Parts and glass and things were sent flying and the front of the Mustang ended up across the highway in a cloud of smoke and debis. The rest of the Mustang (with driver in shock , still seat belted in) ended up in the middle of the road , her car cut in half from firewall back. The van driver was found hanging by her seatbelt inside the van that ended up on its side spinning in the middle of the intersection before it came to a stop.

After seeing a poor lady (killed instantly) right there in a very similar accident in the late 80s , her SUV rammed in the side by a dump truck and thrown some 60 feet or more off the highway, this last one brought back some bad memories. My two very young sons where with me in my Bronco sitting at the red light and they saw the entire dump truck accident occur. They learned a deep lesson about driving that day just like I did.
 
My grandfather once decked a young punk back in the 1960s for disrespect for flipping him the bird and recklessness. My father and his brother were in the car. My dad says my grandfather didn’t say a word, got out of the car and approached the punk while the punk spewed lewd things at him. My grandfather didn’t say a word and then laid him out on the sidewalk with one punch. He then walked back to the car, got in and then sternly said “not a word to your mother about this.” He fought in WW2. I loved my grandfather.

One of the greatest generation.

But times were different, the lawmen were different, the judges different back then. Won't work now.
 
We just had some local news reports by one of the police districts in regards to traffic stops and response to findings once they arrive to handle highway accidents since Jan of 2023 to 2024. The Police Dept has said they recently arrested over 300 vehicle operators from results of running random plate checks of vehicle registrations. These were all found not just guilty of one but several violations.
Everything from 1) operating motor vehicle with no drivers license , suspended license , fake license 2) operating without insurance 3) operating without proper registration/proof of ownership 4) operating without current safety inspections 5) operating a vehicle registered in another state in someone else's name while being a resident (most here illegally to begin with) of another state to avoid fees or taxes in the state vehicle is registered in. The biggest eye opener in that police jurisdiction, shocking to the Sheriff himself was this one: They figured out and just reported that in over 80% of the automobile accidents that LEOs reponded to since Jan of 2023 at least one , and many times both vehicles involved in the accident were found to be driven by people in the country illegally who SURPRISE, had no legal ID, no legal vehicle ownership registration, no required recent safety inspection paper work, no legal insurance coverage on the vehicle they were found to be operating. Not only that , in many cases these people do not even have proof the owner has allowed them access and use of the now wrecked vehicles. This report was said to be one of many recent ones that have been the thing most responsible for rapid rises in vehicle insurance premiums to the owners who are trying to stay current and obey traffic and motor vehicle laws.

This makes the most sense of the insane driving we've been seeing out there on the road.. Finally a logical answer! thanks @SammyChevelleTypeS3 for posting this..
 
Many people are unstable to begin with, and surround them with the protection and power of a 4,000 pound vehicle and they go crazy. The safest thing is don't acknowledge them - bite your tongue, keep your hands down and stare straight ahead. Don't feed the animals, they may bite.
 
My BIL was nearly killed in an auto accident. The car that hit him was driven by an illegal with no insurance.
Also a business associate had his truck totaled by the same situation. Fortunately he escaped injury.

It's not being in a hurry, it's just trying to keep traffic flowing. Around here we have protected left turns on green that last 4-5 seconds. The first car sits there for two secs, tap the horn, they start pulling away slow as molasses and the second car is turning on yellow and third car is stuck at the light. No excuse for not paying attention and not getting your car up to a reasonable speed in a reasonable time.

And most people are texting at the light, I see their head down and usually I'll get a wave if I tap the horn.

Makes me lose it when I see people using phones while driving. Or they sticking others at a light because they are just too very busy seeing what BFF is eating for lunch or who knows what is the latest trivial thing. Maybe TayTay got some new shoes?! :rolleyes:

I can be very patient , but that is selfish and not in tune with one's surroundings. Or maybe once again. Telling us and the rest of the world _____ off, I'm talking/texting here!

Maybe like the young girl who plowed into the side of my truck one day in a parking lot. I saw her zooming at too high speed for in a parking lot but had no place to duck n avoid it. So, as soon as it happened I was looking right in her car and saw her , stunned face , mouth open in shock and of course her phone up to her ear. (apparently before the earbuds). Just $2000 damage to my truck because apparently she was multi tasking and not very good at it.

Yep, very sad.

Young teens are not afraid of law enforcement and the consequences of committing crimes.

There was a point where kids were scared of their parents and the wooden cooking spoon more than the lawmen. I say we bring that back.

I found it! YES! I remembered some humor for me to take out of this thread after all. Yeah. LoL Humor can be like health food or anti-depressant (I likely belong ono_O) to me at times. When I read People are nuts , ROFLMAO!:ROFLMAO: Thanks, that hit my memory/humor bank. Sorry , I know it wasn't meant to be funny but I was having a down, tough day and it picked me up. Weather changes we been having can make the arthritis shear torture some days.

When my sons were home in their teens ,they MADE me watch the Seinfeld show with them each week. I HAD TO because it was one of the few times they both sat down long enough in one place for us to see an episode of any show together except for sports. They both took after their mom who we all nick named years ago, The Ever-ready bunny Cathy! Full of nervous energy and can hardly ever keep still or relax.

Jerry Seinfeld one time said: People! They are the worse! I fell out laughing just at the way he delivered the line. I can't even recall how the line fit YET knowing the selfish , uncaring , flawed characters they all played on that show , the line killed. :LOL: I would guess coming from him, someone must have asked him for help or expected something simple or polite that was just a big inconvinience to one like him.

Each of us at some time , probably can say the same thing when we encounter the self absorbed , rude and uncaring people all around us these days on roads and in public spaces. They are out there and we all run across them sooner or later. Best thing we can do is try to maintain our cool. I am sure some will say "yeah , easier said than done!" But I have learned it certainly gets much easier with age. Could it be we figure everyone is going around these days packing heat or we realize as we get older it would be so much easier to get our b__ts kicked? :rolleyes: Sorry if I took some anger out of the OP.
