Found firearm in dealership loaner

This gun wasn't on the streets, it was in the glove box. ;)

Seriously, best advice given here is to drive the car back to where you got it, drop it off and tell them why. It's their problem, not yours.
That’s what I end up doing. None of the police stations wanted to do anything. They all gave me the runaround. Lol

Why the concern….the car you are driving IS A DEADLY WEAPON! One used to commit vehicular homicide every day. I’m glad the car and the gun are returned now.

Rental car outfits deal with this frequently.

My son bought a used SL 190 Mercedes a couple of decades ago. He found a Colt 1911 pistol under one seat and an Omega Seamaster under the other. Extra good deal!

Went this morning for warranty work and dealership gave me a loaner all good and dandy. Until I made a turn, I heard something sliding around in the glove box I paid no attention to the noise until it was annoying then I opened up glove box and behold there’s a firearm in a case call the dealership told me to go to the nearest police station went to my nearest police station. They told me it’s not their jurisdiction and to go to the county the dealership is located. I kind of found that weird they did not want to get involved for a firearm. Any thoughts?

Whoever left it there, should not own a firearm.

Do with that what you will.

Close story here, Glock 26 in a Suburban I bought.

That’s what I’m going to end up doing none of the police stations wanted to take responsibility which that really blows my mind and they’re trying to get firearms off the streets and nobody seems to care
Its an inanimate object like any other until someone touches it. I would also just take the car back to the dealer. They can do with it as they wish.

That I believe I’m originally from New York
Welcome to the South.

I never get anything cool left in vehicles for me like that. I'm sure it has a couple hundred dollars of street value lol
I got an old school adult video in the trunk of a loaner once. Seems like some low quality antique that only people 30 years older than me would be interested in.

In high school I used to go hunting after classes. So I would usually have a shotgun or two in my trunk. I remember opening my trunk when a teacher was around. He looked a little wide eyed. I told him it was for hunting afterwards. No problem.

I found a 9mm pistol in some overgrown brush I was cleaning up at one of my rental properties about 15 years ago. I called my local PD and they were there in 10 minutes, took the pistol, thanked me and all was good.

In some gun regulation crazy jurisdictions, this would initiate a major investigation. In others, a firearm is no different than any other piece of personal property.

This is a lost or misplaced piece of personal property. You have no idea of whether it was ever used in connection with a crime. Just as you do not know if a lost baseball bat was ever used to beat someone.

I would bring bring it back to the place you rented the car as a lost item left behind by someone. If they refuse to take it, bring it to the State Police.
