Found firearm in dealership loaner

Agree. These days people freak out.

Don't tell anyone, but back in my high school days, we had gun racks in our trucks. With deer rifles (30-06), ready to go. Sitting in the school parking lots.......this was not unusual at all back in the early 80's.

Yes, they do.

A couple years ago, the large state govt. building I work in got put on evacuation because a woman phoned in an "active shooter". Before I could even reach the door to the parking garage state police where rolling in with cruisers and a helicopter showed up shortly thereafter. Alarm going off in the building, people running, babies whaling, the whole nine yards.

Turned out, the "active shooter" was simply a security guard walking the hallways doing his job. Gun was holstered as he gently strolled down the hall checking things out.

It's sad where we've gotten as a nation.

I would get out of the car, lock it, and call the local police. I would tell them that I am concerned that this firearm was used in a robbery or even a murder. I would then call the dealership and tell them to bring out a clean loaner car. In the modern world, there is no way I would knowingly cruise around in a vehicle containing a mystery gun. Here in NJ, you would never be able to explain it to a policeman at the side of the road, even it is an honest mistake by a law-abiding gun owner. But even the location of the gun in the glove compartment is an issue.

Here at least they would laugh at you, and likely hang up.

The current state of the US has taught me there is nothing clear about the Constitution (or what the founding fathers wanted) because the entire document is up for interpretation based on the whims of those in charge and there is no absolute ability to enforce it.
Yes there is, that why we have the 2nd. So we can protect and enforce this right ourselves if the need arises. It’s the people that pretend they know what’s “good” for others that make it seem like it’s up for debate and open to interpretation, aka the tyrants in disguise.

I disagree. Our founders direction was clear.

Supreme court is a political entity. Supreme court - third stool of government - long been an oppressor's. Proof being they continually overturn themselves.

Again, inalienable. The government cannot take away a right bestowed by your maker. Jefferson wrote, "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms," and was in his draft I believe.

Many of the original 13 states have there own version of the 2nd in there constitution - to ensure there was no confusion. Your state does. So does mine.
The Declaration of Independence is the only founding document that mentions inalienable rights and it is only for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Clearly, the state can take away all of these rights. Inalienable is just the wrong word to use or at least you're are not using it correctly here.

The Constitution instead protects specific rights through its amendments, especially the Bill of Rights, such as freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly, due process, and protection against unreasonable searches.

What the founding fathers wrote or thought but didn't explicitly state in into the Constitution is not relevant. Jefferson’s draft language is not the law. What matters legally is the text that was actually adopted. The same goes for broad statements about rights being “bestowed by your maker.” That is a philosophical argument, not a constitutional rule.

Your right to firearms is not inalienable, it can be taken away and regulated.

Let me know how that works out for you. I categorize this as cool in theory but how many would go to this extreme with the state outside their house demanding your surrender?
