Motul X-Clean Gen 2 is C3, SP, and LL-04. I would run mid/low SAPS particularly if your B58 has OPF/GPF. I would personally have no reservations about running Mobil 1 ESP X3 either but note it does not have BMW LL-04 for whatever reason.
mediocre oil..as said before 0-30 is way better
Just for once to answer to someone newb without that zen attitude..
Simply bcs. 0W30 always had really good grade retention, it is 50% PAO.Mediocre how? And why is the other one “way better”?
I think it will soon have.Motul X-Clean Gen 2 is C3, SP, and LL-04. I would run mid/low SAPS particularly if your B58 has OPF/GPF. I would personally have no reservations about running Mobil 1 ESP X3 either but note it does not have BMW LL-04 for whatever reason.
Because it requires less VII?Simply bcs. 0W30 always had really good grade retention, it is 50% PAO.
Castrol 5W30/40 were always just there, average. For long time 5W40 was seriously mediocre offering. It only has MB229.5 last 4 years. It is offered just bcs. people will buy it.
The whole package is on different level. 0W30 and 0W40 were always premier offerings from Castrol. Same like 0W40 is for Mobil1. You can get Mobil Super 3000 5W40, butnit ain’t 0W40. That is where I would put Castrol 5W40. 5W30 is same thing just less VII and better Noack. But nothing dramatic. It is 9.1%, compared to 8.1% in 0W30.Because it requires less VII?
Yeah I guess I was referring to the grade retention.The whole package is on different level. 0W30 and 0W40 were always premier offerings from Castrol. Same like 0W40 is for Mobil1. Grade retention was always excellent considering that VOA shows 11.6cst. I never had it drop below 11. Usually it stays there in 5k OCI.Yeah I guess I was referring to the grade retention.

5qt jug is $25 for 5w-30 K LL
Thank youAverage. Would go Mobil1 ESP 5W30 regardless of $10 more.
Does the owners manual mention Long Life-XX (LLXX) oils?I have a new LCI X5 40i with the TU2 engine. The oil sticker under the hood says to use 0W12 and the manual says to follow that. I'm trying to stay away from 0W12 and at a minimum, I'd use a 0W20 but the owner's manual on page 368 has no mention of 0W20 as a suitable oil. Now the 2024 X6 40i owner's manual on page 359 says 0W20 is a suitable oil. I would assume the 24 X6 uses the TU2 engine also. Any idea why the a difference?
Nothing. It is BMW, it always has something confusing going on with oil recommendations.I have a new LCI X5 40i with the TU2 engine. Yes here is the breakdown. These are all the 2024 year model and assume the 40i is the TU2 version.Does the owners manual mention Long Life-XX (LLXX) oils?
Yes here is the breakdown. These are all the 2024 year model and assume the 40i is the TU2 version.
X5: LL12FE, LL22FE++, only 0W12 or 0W30 listed. LL22FE++ not suitable for 60i.
X6: LL22FE++, only 0W20 or 0W30 listed. 0W12 is not suitable in the 60i.
X7: LL01FE, LL17FE, LL22FE++, 0W12, 0W20 and 0W30 listed. Says the LL22FE++ and 0W12 are not suitable for 60i and LL17FE is not suitable for 50i.
I'd use LL12FE 0W30 in my X5 but read somewhere or saw a BMW oil spec sheet that said BMW doesn't recommend LL12FE for B58's without OPF which I read none of the USA cars have OPF. The owner's manual doesn't mention that. I could be mistaken on that.
