5w-30 for new Honda 3.5L v6

Ford also went back to 5W-30 on the Coyote V8 used in their trucks and Mustang.

Thicker is better! 😂

Seriously though 15 years ago when I lived in Arizona I ran 15w50 in my GTO. I like to run 0w40 in my car now, but there’s a number of oils that are 40s that hold the specification my car calls for.

^^^ "y tho" ... It wasn't because of CAFE, and with that move Ford decided to forfeit CAFE credits, so that should say something, lol. I'd say for better long term engine protection. Could be Ford sees negative effects of too thin of oil that only a large company can see.

Yes, in that respect, I like Ford as a company. They have a tough guy image. They're not going to allow some unelected official to dictate how they do business. Seeing Ford's actions is a breath of fresh air, when you have companies like Toyota specing 0W-8 oil for their 2023 Toyota Corolla's.

What’s going on with Super Duty ? Still chips ? I have watched our lots flip from mostly SD to bunches of F150’s - and that’s not a good recipe for the farmer/rancher/oilfield/construction folks that live here …

So I just picked up a 2023 Honda Pilot, which has their new 3.5L v6. As with all Honda engines, the manual specs 0w-20. But I just ran through the desert mountains @ 80 mph and outside temps hit 119 degrees--I don't trust any 0w-20 oil under those conditions. I'm also concerned about carbon deposits on valves with this new v6's direct injection only fuel delivery system. I do 5K OCIs. Can someone recommend a decent oil, preferably one that can be purchased at Amazon or Walmart? Thanks.
I would and do use Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 in my Ridgeline. It is a relatively "thin" 30w. If you short trip that vehicle it will have "some" fuel dilution. It's not to the dilution of a 1.5 Honda, but it is there..if you short trip it. Pennzoil being on the low end of a 30 weight will be more than good for you. Not far off the 20w Honda recomends, but a little more HTHS that your looking for 3 vs 2.6...
I observed no fuel mileage difference with the 5w30.

Well chit…y’all aren’t making this simple for me. I’m thinking 5W30 in our 19.
More food for your thought, we own:
06 Pilot with 266k miles, lived on 5w20 only (per the manual/fillcap)
11 Ody with 212k miles, lived on 0w20 only
19 Pilot with 86k miles, lived on 0w20 only
No oil issues, no engine issues.

I’m sticking to 0W20, lol. Our 19 EXL has 53K. I service the 6 speed every 30K with Amsoil SS blue cap. It’s been solid.

Based on comments in my UOA thread, I might swap to a 5W-30 or the always recommended M1 0W-40 in my '19 Pilot next time. The Pilot sees a lot of short trip not getting to full temperature. It might get a thicker oil and shorter OCI.

If I keep getting unpromising tranny UOA's, in 3.5 years (or 4-5 regular engine oil OCI's) it might not matter what I put in it anyway. Might be next owners thing to worry about.

Just noticed your signature and four of your cars are on a 5W-40 diet, one car on 5W-30 and only one car using mix of 20 and 30 viscosity grades which is not a true 20.

Nothing wrong with thin oil when warranted but this could disqualify you as a true thin oil spokesperson! lol
My Focus has used 5W20 for the last 10 years/130K since new. The HPL 30 EC is the first 30 grade in the car ever. If they offered a 20 grade EC I'd have gotten it. 20grade4lyfe.

I will discuss it with the grand jury!
FYI, @ZeeOSix could the foreperson of the grand jury if available! :ROFLMAO:
