Fortunately the coolant went out the exhaust. And it's getting new gaskets tomorrow. I'm somewhat glad this happened because it alerted me to other issues I was unaware of.Lovely. Did any coolant mix with the oil? Is it getting put back in service?
This one will somehow get out of it's own way. Or well it would before the head gasket let go.My grandpa had one of these in a Taurus and a Ranger. All 150HP did nicely at upsetting tailgaters.
Any recommendations to gradually remove some of the gold ? Or a dream to convert it into money ?Looks good as GOLD.
I know it's not a problem. But my ocd thinks it could look a little better. Mobil 1 is $24 / 5qt at my local WM while Valvoline R&P is $30 / 5qt. Since acquiring the car I've just ran Valvoline Maxlife SB 5w30 since it's $19 / 5qt.No issue at all with the color. Might lighten up over time with a good synthetic, maybe, but the color is not an indicator of a problem at all. Looks good and clean to me. Iirc posters here suggest that mobil1 synthetic has a touch more cleaning agent than others? It doesn’t need it, but if was bugging you I’d buy it at Walmart where it seems cheapest.
Then run the M1, and you might consider half a bottle of seafoam in every OC for 15k. This mantra has helped old Volvos in my garage.I know it's not a problem. I have yet to see Valvoline R&P clean up some varnish. It does help greatly in the piston ring area, just like advertised. But varnish on the rest of the crankcase doesn't seem to clean up much.Would running Mobil 1 given time and some oci's clean up some of the varnish ? I would go the HPL route , but my wallet won't let me. And lately my local WM has been out of Valvoline R&P.
If you got to stick with one - Mobil 1 FS 0W-40 is the M1 flagship on store shelves, hard to go wrong with that one.Which version of Mobil 1 should I use ?
The rear valvetrain was darker than the front. And if for some odd / rare reason the Mobil 1 0w40 is unavailable is there another recommended version ? I understand oil isn't meant to clean varnish and that there is no such thing as a miracle in a bottle. If you got to stick with one - Mobil 1 FS 0W-40 is the M1 flagship on store shelves, hard to go wrong with that one.
There are 3 Wal-Mart stores on my work commute. Anytime I'm in the Auto section - all three stores always have the M1 0W-40 and M1 5W-40 well stocked, even if other oils are lacking in supply. If for some odd reason they're out - Castrol Euro meets all the same specs, and is available in 5W-30, 5W-40, and 0W-40 flavors. The rear valvetrain was darker than the front. There is only 1 WM within 30 miles of me and lately the oil isle has been slim on options. And so far from what I've read is that this engine isn't really picky on oil. I noticed this one doesn't like any 5w20.There are 3 Wal-Mart stores on my work commute. I stand corrected. Seems like VRP CAN provide some varnish cleanup. Does take time. Unfortunately it did not provide any varnish cleanup in my engines yet, but it did free up piston rings and eliminated oil consumption. The rear valvetrain was darker than the front.
