2007 Ford Fusion 3.0 Duratech V6 - P0302

The rebuilder asked that I move the coils around to see if the malfunctioning coil code (P0353) would follow the coil to another cylinder.

I did, and it didn't. That is, my friend still had five of the six original FoMoCo coils. I pulled the IM and installed three original coils on the rear bank, and the remains two on the front bank. No change - still a P0353, and a P050B.

The engine still ran horribly.

I pulled the three plugs (#4, 5, and 6) on the front bank. #4 and #6 were black with carbon. (They had been fine previously.). #5 was fine. I cleaned the dirty plugs.

We let the rebuilder know, and we all agreed that it was time to start over with a fresh ECM.

He brought one in from the States, and had it programmed to the Fusion's VIN.

He insisted on doing the installation, which was frustrating, as it meant the owner had to pay for a tow way across town to the rebuilder's shop. I get it; the rebuilder doesn't know me, and wanted to be sure the new ECM was installed correctly.

Anyway, he installed the new ECU, and apparently the car runs great now.

I am tempted to replace all the coils with new Densos, but for now all's well.
