Why doesn't Schaffers oil get more love?

Well, I guess if the mighty Exxon Mobil can lower the cost to meet Walmarts price point anything is possible. Not saying that Mobil 1 is not a good oil because it is but myself and many others have always wondered about the GM/Mobil "partnership", especially after Mobil completely changed their formula. FWIW, my 94 Vette has a decal by the radiator to use Mobil 5w30 which I ignore by using Schaeffer's 5w30 synthetic.

You've moved the goalposts. You stated some of the merits of Schaeffer as being used in some racing formats and that this usage cannot be had with Walmart OTS oils. @OVERKILL gave you examples otherwise, but you respond with unrelated supposition.

My post in no way offers an opinion on Scheaffers. I only hear good things from others.

I have no idea where you got that price from unless it was from Ebay or Amazon. I sell at wholesale at $33-$36 per gallon depending on packaging. Retail suggested pricing is approximately $10 more per gallon.

It’s not very convincing when a sales rep for a brand makes unwarranted and disparaged comments about a competitor. It really doesn’t help your cause. If you give actual technical reasons perhaps it might be better.

I would guess for any product to survive as long as Shaeffer's (since 1839) has they must have been making a dependable , quality (proven) product? I have used it quite a bit thru the years. I stopped due to the high shipping costs and the (surprising) higher NOACK numbers I found compared to others similar oils.

What’s the noack issues with it? I see noack mentioned like it’s the worst thing ever to be on the high side, yet I’ve never paid one single though to it when purchasing oil and no issues that I’m aware of have happened.

Indeed. @High Performance Lubricants has stated that Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 0w40 is the best OTS oil they've ever tested internally (or something along those lines) and recommend it for those who don't want to spend the money for their products.

Richard Maskin’s DART blocks are very good pieces. He would have recommend 5w30 for your application. He would always lean towards thinner oil. We had a good relationship with Richard and he is greatly missed.

If you are looking for something off the shelf, just run Mobil 1 FS 0W40.

Mobil 1 FS 0w40. If you actually look at what you get for what you spend. (Value) Very good materials for the price. With its wide distribution this one is a no brainer.

I wont lie I smiled really big when I saw HPLs commentary on that oil, especially knowing I had it in the sump of 80% of my vehicles LS/LT engines.

I'm gonna go on a leaf and say the bulk vanilla Mobil 1 5w30 is also almost as great. GrpIII ( I know I'll take some heat for this).

My beater impala with the 3.4, I use vanilla, it seems to love it.

They are a smaller specialized oil company like Amsoil and HPL. Why don't you see much more of them? How would you rate their oils?

I am also curious what Antimony does in an oil. I noticed Lab results of their oils show it.

Why ? Because no shelf space at Walmart for Shaefer oil which appears to be a regional offering - I’ve never even seen the oil in sny SE or NW stores .

They have been in business a long time. It is Penslavania crude and that is the best crude to extract lubricants from. It has great natural viscosity without as much additives needed. Back in the day the problem with it was that it had to much wax in it but they hydrocrack all oil today and that removes the wax. Another problem is finding it unless you are on the East Coast.

Never any lubricant issues. This was all on vehicles with lots of idle, long oci, and roughly used vehicles and equipment. It always did the job

Which did you use more of, the 7000 series or 9000 series of Schaeffer's oil? Just curious

I’ve been using the 9000 in 0w20 for a few oil changes and no issues. My 18 had a little tick in the winter when 1st started and I noticed the other day that it’s gone, although it never bothered me. My 21 seems to rev a little better and mpg is where it’s always been. I’ve got some torco on deck and another change of hpl for my wife’s 24. I’m going to stick with boutique oils even though I’d probably never recoup what I’m spending versus valvoline. I don’t get my nails done and my haircuts cost $20 and my house is paid off. There’s far worse things to waste money on…like paying $80 for bulk swill at the quick lube.

Best I can tell - S9000 is +/- $55/gallon - so significant price difference - closer in price to high end stuff like HPL …

I sell our 9000 series at the wholesale level between $33--$38 depending on viscosity and packaging per gallon everyday.
