Hi all, gotta say love this site. Been doing alot of looking around and reserach here. Anyway I have 3 cars a 99 v8 taurus sho, a 95 dodge stealth r/t and a 01 Chrsyler voyager. Ran nothing but dino in them then a made a switch and love it! I am running Royal purple in 2 of my cars which have not only made them run quieter and smoother it actually made my lifter tick go away! I know RP uses moly and it seems to work wonders, However I am always up for trying somthing different and The Schaeffer's oil caught my attention. I like the fact that it is the oldest Company to deal with oil, Out of comparison How does schaffer's 9000 or 7000 Compare with royal purple? I know they use moly as well. I have yet to use amsoil but like I said I am always up for somthing different. And I also use the purolator pure one now yellow can. Is Mobil 1 or k&n any better in anyway?

99 SHO 121k
95 Stealth 68k
01 voyager 89k

You're dealing with expensive, high-end racing oils. Any one you choose will be an excellent choice and actually a bit overkill.

Amsoil probably makes the absolute best filter as of right now. As for oil, I would save some money and give Pennzoil Platinum a try.

Good to have you here! There are SOO many choices out there to try. Amsoil, Schaeffer's, a myriad of diesel oils, Biosyn and some new offerings from our brethren in Canada too!! Whatever you decide to try next the key is to stick with the new oil and filter for at least two OCI's in order to get an objective evaluation. Obviously UOA is a great barometer for you to use as a guide on your way to that beloved perfect match. Some discount your senses, but hey man it's YOUR CAR...if you think it's running smoother then by all means be happy and let people know about it. It is a fun journey for sure!

Thanks for the comments, The lifter tick Was on my 95 Stealth which is a notorious problem with that car, The lifters have only a 1mm Opening in them causing air or not enough oil to pass through. They came out with new 3mm lifters but I did not replace them cause it's to much of a job. The royal purple cured it to my delight. I am also running Pennzoil Conventional in my van which seems to work pretty nice. I don't believe the sludge and wax problems pennzoil may have once had long ago. However the mopar filter seems to have lifter tick upon startup. I think its because of the anti drain back leak. Does fram make mopar filters? Running RP Max gear in the transmission of the stealth seems to work good. And in the autos I run Whats specified Mercon V or atf +4 and a bottle of LUCAS Stop slip with every change.

Jeremy!

Any of the mentioned oils are very good.

You'll wanna run the better oils in the SHO & Stealth if you drive them harder.

I settled in on a rotation of PP (Pennzoil Platinum) and Amsoil. Both will easily go 8k. If I were you I would first give PP a run, then Amsoil if you want to switch again.

Good luck & let us know what you do...

Man every time I see a Stealth or 3000GT it brings back good memories (I`ve had 2 3000GT SL`s). THEE BEST cars I`ve ever owned hands down! I pounded the living heck out of those cars and neither one of them ever had any shop time. I always ran either a 10W30/10w40 conventional w/Fram classic orange filter. If I`d known about Mobil 1 15W50 back then, that`s what they would`ve gotten.

If I ever come across a low mileage VR4 that`s bone stock for sale,I`ll be getting out my checkbook.

Yeah stealth/3000gt is a very good car and fast! I have the DOHC Version Your SL is I am correct had the SOHC but some may have had the DOHC. I use to run the orange can of death but wised up quickly. I use nothing but purone at this time but been thinking about Mobil 1 or amsoil filter on my next change. I restored my car interior and exterior but nothing on engine yet. It's still fairly new. Just got the lifter tick issue when I don't drive it for awhile. It seems to like RP alot more than other oils. I also am running HALO spark plugs in it as a test.

Those cars` lineup was kind`ve strange. The 1991-1996 3000GT`s (base,SL,and VR4) all had the DOHC engines. The 1997-1999 base had the SOHC,while only the SL and VR4 had the DOHC. My 96 was a base with the DOHC and 98 SL had the DOHC as well. Man I miss them!!!!!!!! My 96 was caracus (spelling?) red with black leather and the factory chrome wheels. Smoooooooth as silk manual transmission. That car was so insanely smooth I could set the cruise control at 135 MPH and the car didn`t even have a single vibration. I kept the original dealer window sticker when I sold her.

Hey,what weight RP are you running in your Stealth? A friend of mine had a Stealth SOHC auto and he ran GTX 20W50. Had over 300K on his car and still ran perfect.

Yeah these cars go crazy fast, I had mine up to 145mph and did not have one vibration in the wheel! Motor was running at a lazy 4 1/4k RPM. After about 80mph the aero dynamics kick in. Your friend with the SOHC Is pretty lucky to get 300k. Although he has the SOHC which is no differet then the 3.0 used in dodge's minn vans. If a timing belt breaks on that engine you are ok, And the SOHC did not have the lifter issue I think. The DOHC belt breaks Oh man, Goodbye valves. Anyway if useing DINO I ran 20-50w no problem in florida. However when I switch to RP 20-50w was way to think and increased lifter tick, I switch down to 10w30 RP and she ran great.
BTW If curious you can see my car at this link

Man that is a beautiful car! I`ve always loved the Stealth/GT in yellow. Does yours have the removable targa top? Mine didn`t. It just had the electric sliding sunroof.

I remember one time an ex gf and I were in mine running around Dallas somewhere when this guy pulls up next to me in a VR4. He looks over at me,the light turns green, and he`s gone in a blur! His car didn`t even break the tires. Those things are INSANELY fast.

I was about to get a stealth as my first car, it was a dark emerald green and had nice custom wheels on it, looked nice & clean. Unfortunately it was just out of my price range and I ended up getting something for a grand cheaper or so. Cool cars, although I think I prefer the 3000GT's styling.
