who do you think is a "sleeper" oil?

Did you post your UOA's here? We sell Service Pro where I work, but I have never seen any UOA or VOA posted here. It is a very reasonably priced product. We sell 55 gallon drums of DEXOS1 certified 5w30 synthetic for $478, which makes it less than $2.18 per quart!

watch for deals via aap or orielys, you can often find 5qts and a M1/Bosch D+ for around $32

No Oreily stores in Northeast. But thanks I'll keep an eye out at AAP.

AAP runs it a few times a year, not often enough though. I live in the North East too, I print the O'Reilly's ad and have my AAP guy price match them. That's helped me build up my stash. Just a suggestion for you.

What is so special about this 8130 that it is your favorite ?
Does it improve mileage over the full synthetics from Amsoil and Mobil ?
And how does it compare to 8800 from LE ?

I don't see any sleeper oils on the market right now.
When I first discovered BITOG, ~ '04 the sleeper oils were:
SL-GF/3
Chevron/Havoline @ W*M
Motorcraft also @ W*M
Philips 66 at the Dollar Store
German Castrol @ AZ
SuperTech ~.78-.88/qt, and said to be >/= to VWB(OCI) at the time.
And others that I can't remember.

Since SM-GF4, oil prices have risen, held for a while, risen again, held, and now on the rise again. No rebates on Havoline since the change to DS. Chevron in my area is almost no where to be seen except at AuotZone(AZ).

Sometimes we all run into a steel of a deal such as the PEAK and ProLine filter (FAR) or oils being let go for a buck or two/qt on the discount shelves but, the oils today that are sitting on the shelves at cheap prices and have great UOA's are rare.
I have even been able in the past to take advantage of double rebates such as PYB...Penz and PB's each had a rebate going on at the same time. Maybe I wasn't supposed to do this but, I did!

I hear of deals that some are getting in different parts of the country but, I don't see them in my neck of the woods.

I'm waiting for closeouts on the discount shelves in order to keep my stash continuing(one of the reason that I mix different oils).

Today, using SM-GF/4 and now going to SN-GF/5, oils have been and will be better than ever, closing the gap even more between dino/syn.

I think it's probably the Monolec additive that makes this oil stand out. But the total chemistry of 8130 is top notch too. I don't keep very good track of fuel economy, so I can't comment there. My UOA's so far indicate it has incredible wear control advantages over other oils I've tried. The 8800 is a 15w40 HDEO that I can't comment on because I don't have anything to try it in. I think it's their flagship oil though, so it's probably outstanding as well. LE has a different philosophy than the other oils you want me to compare it to. So I won't try. Hope this helps.

Other than that, for penny pinchers, Formula Shell 5w30 SM is the least problematic conventional I've run in the past decade.

Seriously? API rating aside, how do we know it is up to snuff for automotive engines?
Is a aircooled tractor/ODE engine with NO oil pump a tougher environment than a water cooled pressure lubed engine? Is Briggs and MTD picky about their OEM oil? Otherwise, given that the oil is clear and virtually scentless it's at least a group II+ "purebase". MTD/Briggs high lubricant stds typically require 1200-1600PPM ZDDP.

To directly answer your query, We cannot prove suitability without running API cert tests (not happening) or at least a few voa/uoa. Butr we can assume suitability. It is by all indicators a suspected good oil but with BOOSTED EP/AW additisation. IN service. my Toyota never ran better on any oil, regardless of price, including M1 AFE and M1 10w-30HM. Smoothness and lack of engine noise are "1st line of defense" indicators of oil quality.

Then note All those engine failures on SG/SH oils in the past. Like I said I gotta get a VOA but I cannot trust B-Stoned these days.

The Motorcraft at WM slept for years, the jugs are still a sleeper deal, I think. Mag1 oils I heard are sleeping around with all kinds of names.

Only "Underdog" I know of down here is TCU. But this is just awl,Hoss. Try a few different awls till you find one your motor seems to "like".

I'd say Formula Shell.

It 'hides' under the PZ umbrella, but produces some of the absolute BEST UOA's I've ever seen on here.

arco, are you refering to using this in your vehicle or OPE?

Another vote for Formula Shell Dino and Syn. T5 10w30 was great when Wally's had it on sale for $11.50 a gallon.

for you guys eating up the shell dino, pep boys has it on sale 5qts and a proline oil filter for $13.99 thru jan 30

I ran it in the toyota last winter. Decided not to spring the 5+ bucks a qt this year. Sorry no UOA - cant afford one that would indicate wear rate. I dont do long OCI so I wasnt worried about TAN or TBN.

arco, no offense, but you make some of the strangest posts on here, i mean you say M1/pp/edge/etc arent full syns then you buy oil for your car in the OPE isle? im not trying to be mean in any way, but how does your mind work?

My thoughts exactly. I only know of them thanks to BITOG. I simply love that 0w40 is the same price. Actually cheaper for me since I liked the marketing of EP and was paying more.

And I hope it stays a sleeper. Otherwise I can see it costing the same as EP if not more if others jump on it.
