Finally got my "new" engine in the CRX and decided to get serious about the oil. Did some research on filters and found two filters that will fit my engine:
Purolator Pure One L14459 - (Stock)
Case = 3.15" x 3.03"
12-15 PSI bypass w/ anti drainback
Purolator premium plus L30165
Case = 2.98" x 4.83"
25-25 PSI bypass w/ anti drainback
So in looking at these filters, the 30165 holds about 40% more oil, has larger filter area and a higher bypass pressure.
But, the stock 14459 is available in the Pure One which claims to have a 98% Multi pass efficiency vs. 96% for the 30165. Which is the better trade-off?
My thought is that if I'm changing it regularly anyway, I will probably never use the "extra" capacity of the 30165. It also helps to look at the efficiency and say the 96% filter lets 4% through, the 98% filter lets 2% through, so the 96% filter is letting twice as much crap through.
OTOH, it would be nice to know that all the oil is going through the filter (where the higher bypass comes in)
What are your thoughts?
