I believe that is the correct nomenclature, IIRC. I don't use VCs and I don't use the thimble on my VQ (I use the taller M1-110 or K&N 1010, both of which have the same base and diameter, but are substantially taller). I bought this filter out of curiosity, as I wanted to confirm for myself that the cheap VCs had all the Champion Labs basics in place. They do, but I can't speak to the makeup of effectiveness of the element itself. As you can plainly see, however, the cementing job isn't exactly neat. Also, the cement is of another color than the stuff used in higher line CL filters. I have no idea if this implies any functional difference, though. Longwinded ramble complete...
 
Some of the 'larger' Purolator oil filters will have the string.

But the smaller filters from Purolator & Purolator clones will NOT have the string.
