When did you realize you were old?

I had to dig a shallow trench about 45 feet across my driveway today. I was able to use the tractor some. But was still a lot of work. Hot a couple of rocks I could not dig out so just went around them.

I have never been real good at manual labor it always wore me out.

I will be 57 next week.
I'm now sore and beat.

When Nirvana"s smells like teen spirit and The Offspring were playing on the classic rock station. When a lady in the grocery store parking lot pointed out my Ninja Turtles shirt and said "How retro".

I noticed two years ago at 60 , I was slowing down. Ten years ago I had no problem digging up 30 feet of storm sewer in front of my house at a depth aof 36 inches. This past summer both my brother (61) and I were beat digging up 25 feet of field tile about 33 inches down on our small farm.

I leaned on plenty of shovels in my youth and thats a pretty big hole. I know lots of guys younger than you that wouldn't even attempt it.

The older I get the more it hurts the next day. However my dad was doing this sort of stuff till the day he died at 85, albeit at a much slower pace. I hope I am as lucky.

I am 70 and still feel pretty good. I am able to go hunting and fishing and feel blessed. I guess when I received my first SS payment it made me feel old at 66 1/2. I still work 20 hours per week at a large local car dealership in customer service and like my job. I did nothing for 2 years after retirement and was really bored so I went back to work and really enjoy my job. Picture taken in October.

Probably around age 50, when I couldn't do any car maintenance without being very sore for a few days after. Last weekend, I had to take the wheel off & reinstall on my daughter's Ford Edge, and changed the oil in my son's Jeep the next day. Today is the first day my back wasn't sore. I need to start doing core strength exercises.
A good friend got this way but loved wrenching his fun Euro cars that ultimately get sold on Bring a Trailer. He ended up building a wide taller single car garage that accommodates a $2000 car lift to solve that.

Do yoga, do yoga, do HOT YOGA, such as Bikram.
It's stretching and the heat (with resultant sweating) is cleansing.
It'll stop the hands of time and might even reverse them.

And, just because people hear and repeat stupid things, I must add, it's not a religion. It's just a workout.

A COMPLETELY UNVERIFIABLE GUESS:
Had any of us gotten our garage lift when we were young, maybe we wouldn't've aged as fast as we did?

The medical building my Dr office is in has a child care facility in it. As l was walking near the fence of the playground on my way to the building entrance, the young children (3 to 5) were saying "hi grandpa".

Hasn't hit me yet.

Still really limber. I never really have felt THAT bad when I was 40 pounds over weight even when I was in my 40's. I could still hike OK, but still becoming a symptom-less diabetic is NEVER a good thing.

Anyway, I'm nearing 68 and healthier than I've been since I was in my early 30's.

You really should work on it before too late.
