When did you realize you were old?

When I found I was going to more funerals than weddings
When the Playboy models were younger than my grand kids
When I started reading Playboy for the cartoons
When middle aged ladies started calling me sir
When middle aged men started holding doors for me
When I realized that the only songs I know on the radio were on oldies stations
When I realized I still listen to the radio
When I found I didn't know any of the actors on the Hollywood awards shows
When I kept forgetting to charge my flip phone
When I didn't care that Viagra went generic

Actually, at 75 I can still do a three mile hill walk on "Rollercoaster Road" with 13 steep hills non-stop in under an hour

This picture was taken at my 70th birthday party. I met every single one of these guys in FIRST GRADE and we've remained friends ever since.

My oldest son and his wife threw the party for me. The first to arrive showed up at 1PM, the last to leave left at 2AM. We partied all day like we did while in high school.

I am so blessed,

Scott

Scott's 70th bday with lifetime long friends.webp

I do have a Part B: I did realize that I don't really want to climb on roofs anymore. There is that, around 60-65, no more pitched roofs!! It's a weird thing. My brain kinda wants to, but my body preservation says: NOPE!!
I don’t really want to do that in my mid 40s!

Growing my beard and seeing it become salt and pepper, and then quickly realizing my own hair no longer has any pepper..

I'm 53. Still feel young-ish but toss in the bifocals and age is slowly creeping up.

Went from glasses to contacts, then back to bi-focal glasses
2 back fusions due to disintegrated discs
Testosterone injections being I don't make it anymore
Hate doing yardwork, when I used to enjoy it
AARP newsletters in my mailbox
Car maintenance is becoming a chore, when I used to love it
Snow blowin is a chore when I used to enjoy it
Just turned 59, and was not happy cutting my cake
Adding doctor appointments to the calendar, when there was none in my early 40's

Lol. I don’t know man some days I feel old as heck. Physically and mentally lol. Theres days I hurt sometimes nothing major but been in auto shops for 7 years professionally so I guess it comes with the job. And then there’s people I work with that have never watched cable tv or seen a movie on disk or used a basic phone. Unbelievable to me but I guess it’s reality. I felt old the first time one of those young inspiring mechanics at work who is 16 told me he had never grew up with cable or a disk movie and only knew what Netflix was.
When I turned 25 I said to a friend “ I’m half way to thirty” meaning I was half way between 20 and 30, those magical, young, carefree years. She said “ no you’re not, you’re half way to 50 “.

I always laugh when I see those! McDonald’s uses them too 😆
Occasionally one will see an insect stencilled onto the optimum target location on a urinal. This fine example of process engineering purportedly increases accuracy greatly.

There's a fine restaurant out in cottage country (big food after a day of hiking or mountain biking) which used to have a little plastic male gymnast perched on a bar, attached by suction cup to the bottom of the urinal. With judicious aim, the user could make the gymnast spin.

Yes you are! We had a birthday party for a 4 yr old yesterday. Party started at 2p and I was in bed by 8:30p

This year after having hernia surgery. Turning 68 and can’t do anything. I reckon I need to ensure a full recovery. It has made me old. I won’t be pulling ant Pontiac heads again. Doing my engine work (early 2025) with engine in frame may be the reason for my situation.

I’m 48 and mostly feel great but have had some lower back issues that have slowed me down the last few years. I’m working on it and getting closer to 100%.

What does make me feel old is having an 8 year old daughter and having to explain to her things like what a payphone is, cd player, etc…I didn’t even realize pay phones were gone but I can no longer find any in the city.

I’m also starting to remember events and say things like “that was 40 years ago”
