Got around to activating my iPhone 17 Pro today. Loving it so far (coming from a 13 Pro). However, the setup did not go as planned  The new phone set up easily, got everything from my iCloud backup, transferred the eSim to my new phone, etc. Standard new phone stuff. I then went to prep my old phone for trade-in my turning off 'Find My' and deleting it from my iCloud account. Should have worked great, except... i forgot that when you restore an iCloud backup on a new device, the old device name transfers to the new device. So I see a device in my list that says 'iPhone 13Pro' and delete it. A couple minutes later, my new iPhone loses its cellular connection, then reboots. After some time, it goes to the initial setup screen. What?! Turns out, I deleted and reset my new phone.

Eventually, I realize my mistake and simply go thru the initial setup again. Unfortunately, I can no longer transfer my eSim since it already transferred once. Can't do it via the T-Mobile app either. So using my wife's phone, I call and get someone who was able to take care of it (after a long search of finding my account PIN ). Wait time was supposed to be an hour, but ended up getting settled in about a half hour. My new phone is up and running. Lesson learned. My 13 Pro was rock solid for so long, so it had been awhile since I went through this process. All's well that ends well I guess.

What if that happened from Android to iPhone and vice versa? It could be even worst?!?

Some companies won’t use Android …
This issue wouldn’t really have changed with a different OS. It was my fault that I didn’t double check before deleting the ‘old’ device. Next time I’ll just do it as I always have: wipe the phone from the phone itself. T-Mobile was adamant that you use iCloud to do it, and I wanted to make sure I got my trade in money back, so I followed their instructions to my downfall 😂

Still a very favorable impression of the 17 pro I assume?!?!
