Color matters or not aside, I was thinking it's much easier to turn purple to black than amber to black. I mean purple is almost there already. meaning if color was an indication, it would not be fair to judge a purple oil. No?

The purple in this oil is not very "dark" when new. It is just a dye they put in I guess to be different. That must be where that extra dollar a quart come from!
HPS looks to be a good oil. Never had an interest in RP but that's the only RP line I'd consider. They give you shear stability figures on their PDS (D6278) and talk about the solvency of the base oils they use keep engines clean and free of deposits.
They also provide shear stability data (ASTM D-6278) between HPS, Amsoil SS, Driven and Mobil 1. Mobil 1 was by far the worst, which is exactly what we've seen for at least a decade.
Have you cut open the filter for any of these runs? Oil colour isn't overly valuable, as different components respond to oxidation differently and it's not uncommon for some of them to darken considerably, which makes oils with these compounds in them go "black" very quickly. People have posted about Pennzoil Ultra Platinum staying clear on the dipstick the entire OCI for example.
I have not. After running a Volvos S60 for a quarter million miles with the turbo 5 and servicing my daughter’s pentastar for 150k I saw the results of 5-7500k oil changes and the results on the filter. It was always uneventful. I have the pure one in the bin so maybe I will just to take a gander. The last filter I cut was a Nissan gohner to try and figure out why I was getting dry starts. I knew what had happened, I just wanted proof to show Nissan. They could have cared less. I did use my son in laws borescope on this engine and where I could snake it in was absolutely pristine. That was before HPl and Schaeffers so I gotta believe it still is. It’s is DI and saw some hard runs through the mountains as well as 6500k in a relatively short amount of time. The best news is not a drop was consumed. I also ran the last 500 miles with some pea cleaner so that may have contributed to things.
My son in law works for a huge ag company as an engineer. Somehow they’re a distributor for milwaukee and schaeffers, so I get both for cost. The Hps came from a speed shop @ $60 a case. Then Amazon had a quick deal for around the same price so I ended up with 4 cases. I’ll run it all year round at that price, not sure I’d pay $10 a quart though.
