Hi,

I have a new 2024 Crosstrek 2.0 that I'm trying to select oil for. I was going to stick with Mobil 1, but Triax caught my eye and their specs on the 0w-16 look great. (Highest HT/HS I've seen and low NOACK) I've read through some older threads on the company which have made me weary but that was several years ago and it has all API approvals, etc. The price and availability are great, it ends up only being $7 more than Mobil1 and comes in a 5 quart jug. I did an early oil change at 1k miles with Liqui Moly I had on hand and installed a Valvomax at that point so the 5 quart jug is needed to make changes even easier. I will be doing every 5k miles going forward.

Any information about Triax is appreciated.

Lots and lots of existing threads on Triax. There are more but this is a good start.

They like to obfuscate on what specifications, licenses and approvals the oils do or do not have.

Hmmm… caught your eye, eh?

How, exactly, did they catch your eye?

Let’s be clear, they do not have approvals. They claim to exceed the specifications of those approvals.

And I am suspicious of any oil that claims to”better engine feel” or “smoother & more uniform acceleration”.

More uniform acceleration? Really?

Is that because of the “nano tech”? “Nano tech”?

Those are snake oil marketing lines. Specious, unprovable claims based on “feel” and magical tech sure max out my “hogwash detector”.

Agree, use with caution. Had to dig but here's their address;

I got an idea, take a drive to your local Audi dealer and get some VAG approved 508 00 509 00

Otherwise just get the Mobil 1. I recall seeing it has a boosted DI package to survive more hours in mixed and boundary.
I would typically suggest to go 0w-20 here, but this is good reasoning to run the 0w-16.

TRIAX Lubricants as formally has applied for VW and Mercedes Benz Germany OEM approvals for our European car engine oils. The approvals are expected to be completed late 2024 early 2025 without any changes to the formulations:

Euro VX 5W30
Pending approvals: VW 504/507, Mercedes Benz 229.51

Euro VX 5W-40

O.P:

Co. looks very legit; if you are feeling frisky, Go For It!

(Personally, I would be inclined to stick with the Mobil 1 here on the outer edges of oil grade sanity)

The TRIAX 0w16 is API certified, and the Company License is valid.

No phone number to even call them, which is what I was about to do lol. Yeah I'd pass on this brand. I shot them an email let's see what they say.

They're probably owned by some company in Shenzhen China LOL.

They do show a valid API license on the API EOLCS lookup.

I messaged TRIAX and mentioned no Phone # listed on their website.

ps: Hey buster, I am trying M1 in my Ford after a long hiatus. It didn't blow up yet in the 8 miles I drove it. LOL.
