Triax 0w-16 ('24 Crosstrek)

Hi,

I have a new 2024 Crosstrek 2.0 that I'm trying to select oil for. I was going to stick with Mobil 1, but Triax caught my eye and their specs on the 0w-16 look great. (Highest HT/HS I've seen and low NOACK) I've read through some older threads on the company which have made me weary but that was several years ago and it has all API approvals, etc. The price and availability are great, it ends up only being $7 more than Mobil1 and comes in a 5 quart jug. I did an early oil change at 1k miles with Liqui Moly I had on hand and installed a Valvomax at that point so the 5 quart jug is needed to make changes even easier. I will be doing every 5k miles going forward.

Any information about Triax is appreciated.
I’ll word this nicely. Don’t walk, run!!!

There’s a lot of hate towards Triax lubricants 😂. If triax is making your subibie run smoothly and like the performance go ahead used with confidence. You’ll definitely gonna get steered to Pennzoil on this site with there heavily advertise here lol

Still waiting for a response from Triax. Well, they are just waking up in Tehas.

Maybe they are moving to another storefront. LOL.

Still a valid API license is worth nothing? Really?

Their 2M product equipment guarantee? (pause)

You know this stuff is blended to a DI supplier recipe like all the other second tier product like ... WPP's MAG1 - a good oil.

The difference is that Warren doesn't use absolutely ludicrous marketing and you can get Supertech and Kirkland dirt cheap quite easily. This is Lucas-level marketing nonsense and that should turn-off any person capable of critical thought immediately. It'd be like some off-brand Chinese router company on Amazon telling you their routers have more plastic in the ports, giving you SUPER MONDO PREMIUM PERFORMANCE! YOU CAN'T BUY A BETTER ROUTER!

I have a difficult understanding why anyone would use 0W-16 just to help the Car manufactures CAFE which in no way benefits me (as a practical matter) but to each his own.
The difference is relatively negligible for most applications. Ex: M1 AFE 0W16 is 7.6 KV100 & M1 AFE 0W20 is 8.2 KV100. Both are technically in J300 range for 20 starting out.

I’ve used both PP 0W16 and PP 0W20 in our previous Toyota and experienced no noticeable differences in MPG or wear verified by UOA’s. Both are allowed and both are suitable.

Oh, come on, no worse than the some of the majors. Supertech and Kirkland are GENERICS.

How else do you catch John Q. Publics attention.
But I understand the turnoff

HLW (WPP) has a little bit of marketing hype blazoned on their House Brand MAG 1, but admittedly no unsubstantial claims:

mag1.webp

Given the HTHS is near that a 0w20, the 0w16 (and 0w8) has a substantially enhanced DI package over the 20 grade.
I would want that given the 20 and the 16 will both be operating in boundary and mixed regimes.

I do agree I would prefer a proper oil viscosity to keep parts separated where feasible.

Am I witnessing small U.S.A. business bashing by a Foreign National?

Starting to feel like, it and I got NO skin in this game. Just pushing for a bit of fair play - deserved or not

Myself I just got a new Cross trek, nice rolling computer, anyhow I too am in process of selecting a new oil after a couple of early 0w-16 break in changes, I called Subaru and challenged then on the so called required 0w-16,,and they said its ok and will not void warranty to use 0w-20 synthetic in the engine ,and the dealer service manager confirmed this viscosity request as being fine , as I'm currently looking at Pennzoil ultra Platinum 0w-20 ( Most Likely ) ,or the Valvoline EP. 0w-20, or Quaker-State Ultimate oil for my engine ,OCI at every 6 month or 5 k intervals and plan on using a Fram ultra filter (XG-7317) you can get any of these oils and filter at WM,,,personally I would avoid the Triax oil, as too many bad observations against it ,even if you want to be adventurous on oils maybe look at Amsoil ss or Schaeffer's 9000 0w-20, or Royal Purple pcmo oils,,, as they are really great also, good luck.

If your advertising sounds like a Power Thirst commercial, I'm going to call it out, the same way I do with Lucas. It's not bashing, it's valid criticism. I'll call out any brand for misleading, totally false or outright ridiculous marketing, just like I did when Shell started posting piston pictures. Nobody gets a free pass to act like their audience is comprised of morons.

If Petro-Canada sent you an e-mail that was like "Our super jumbo elongator formula 9000 rebuilds your engine as you drive; stops wear in its tracks like a badger on cocaine and gets together the dad's of all the other oils and beats their heads in with a 2x4, THERE IS NOTHING BETTER!!!11111ONE" I'd be all over them for the same reason.

Stick with Mobil 1 or other reputable names

I'd buy a "super jumbo elongator" too.

This wasn't a spam post, I was genuinely curious after reading the older information. I didn't expect it to get this intense but this is BITOG. Lol Just reading through all the ranting. This was somewhat helpful but I think I'll just stick to Mobil1.

Also, I'm sticking with 0w-16 as that is what Subaru requires. 0w-20 is allowed for top up but Subaru will not tell you to use it exclusively and just to follow the manual, I wouldn't trust anything a dealer says.

Thanks all.
