I agree with everything here. I’ve had at least one Subaru in my fleet since the late 70’s. There’s so much misinformation on the Subaru forums when it comes to oil. Especially grade and the effect on vvt and the warranty. After 5-6k miles Subaru engines always drop at least a grade, my theory is the timing chain is hard on oil(and now DI). I would recommend the OP go right to a 30 grade. Currently I’m using Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 in one and Valvoline R&P 5w-30 in an oil burner. There’s a reason why I don’t frequent Subaru forums… there’s a whole lot of brand (car or oil) fetishes, and little to no data or sense used in choices. It’s all propaganda or emotion. From my experience there are two solid, data-proven points for Subaru owners: 1. If non-turbo or turbo FA24, use a synthetic 30 grade (>3.2 HT/HS) from a major; 2. If turbo EJ25X, is a synthetic 40 grade (>3.5 HT/HS) from a major.
Boutiques may make your tingle but it’s not needed; the HT/HS is what’s going to keep your engine working well in these cases. I’ve accumulated well over 800k miles on various boxers following this regimen with zero oil-related issues.
NASIOC oil beliefs (engine AND transmission) have more in common with voodoo than reality… remember “Uncle Scotty’s Cocktail”?Nasioc is hands down the worst for lube emotions. On the flip side there is a ton of great info on subies buried there. I do miss the ej’s too!
Some Quality stuff there everyone should be using it
Hilarious!! That guy did some serious digging into Triax. Nothing but a scam. Explains all the inconsistencies and misprints we’ve been pointing out here for years.Synthetic Oil Questions - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums
1999 - 2003 7.3L Power Stroke Diesel - Synthetic Oil Questions - I have been using Conoco Phillips Fleet Supreme EC 15W-40 dino oil for the past few years with good results. That connects all the dots right there. Should be a permanent sticky.Synthetic Oil Questions - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

There was a similar deep dive posted on here a while back (minus the lawsuit data IIRC) but it was removed. Nice to see it exposed somewhere at least. That connects all the dots right there. Should be a permanent sticky.
80% less cam wear. That seems believeable!!!!Hmmm… caught your eye, eh?
How, exactly, did they catch your eye?
Let’s be clear, they do not have approvals. They claim to exceed the specifications of those approvals.
And I am suspicious of any oil that claims to”better engine feel” or “smoother & more uniform acceleration”.
More uniform acceleration? Really?
Is that because of the “nano tech”? “Nano tech”?
Those are snake oil marketing lines. Specious, unprovable claims based on “feel” and magical tech sure max out my “hogwash detector”.

Wrong, their oils are API Licensed and certified according to product data sheets. I have been using their products for years and they are excellent.Hmmm… caught your eye, eh?

Some are. And for some they list “suitable for” approvals that are mutually exclusive.Wrong, their oils are API Licensed and certified according to product data sheets. I have been using their products for years and they are excellent.

I wonder how they are made aware of such things?Since Triax said: "We are aware of the member making false claims on BITOG," I am actually bookmarking this!
As they say, "Bad news travels fast".I wonder how they are made aware of such things?
It is incredible that people were giving them any benefit of doubt after numerous evidence that it was obvious that they never knew about basic stuff behind approvals, specifications etc. We still have members claiming they are good, honest company. It is almost like it matters to them.I wonder how they are made aware of such things?
