The New Fram Ultra......

Purolator seems to have issues with not deburring the underside of the tapping plate and leaving burrs on the oil inlet holes that slice the ADBV.
Cost cutting at its finest. But they look so clean on the outside. I had issues with them recently in two vehicles. I got so paranoid about filter issues that I started putting neodinyum magnets on spin-on filters, like a bunch of them, just ... in case.

Strange I've used a Purolator Boss the last 2-oil changes 🤷 with no issues.

Went back to WM this morning for prescriptions, they had a huge shipment of ULTRA's. All were new packaging but were significantly heavier than the TGuards so I assume they have the screens.

I usually buy filters in bulk, or at least five or ten at a time, so I may have stumbled on a few bad apples if they were from the same batch. I'm not into filter bashing by any stretch, and the Purolator BOSS feels like a solid filter. Maybe I got unlucky? Who knows.

I’m thinking the comments on the metal screening is a bunch of BS. 21 pages and no one has been able to produce a photo on what this “metal screening” looked like on the original Ultra.

The original video said “ I can safely say this has no metal backing” What? It looks no different from any C & P of any earlier Ultra except for the the different filter material. The comment about the metal backing is missing from the box so everyone is assuming something is different with no photo evidence.

Here you go:

Does anyone know what material the synthetic portion of the new media is? After mulling it over for a while, the new filter doesn't actually look that bad.

Sure looks like a durable metal screen in both versions.

I have a thread, with pictures, on here from years back of the XG3600 that went 19,700 miles on the xB in my sig-it was the sharpest metal screen ever, needed side cutters to cut it out.

Yes, the comment “ durable metal screen is missing on the box “, but the “durable metal screen” is still there inside the filter body.
Great. Thanl

Thanks. Yes I see it now. At 6:58, the pre-cut filter material shows an additional screen backing, hence the “durable metal screen “ Good eye.

The center screen is still metal and still there. No change to that.
But there is a flexible metal mesh that backs the full length of the media. This cannot be seen without cutting open a filter.
Circled in the image directly from Fram website.
Its purpose is/was to provide rigidity/strength to the media.

I was able to shine a flashlight in the Titanium 9688 and could see the screen mesh for the filter media. Just to clarify. thanks!

Did you miss this post? If you look I side through the holes, you see the metal mesh on the filter material in the top picture, there's no mesh showing in the bottom picture.

Now - I don't personally feel that there's any issue with the new Ultra, but wanted to post to clarify since you said nobody has produced a picture.

ok, so its difficult to see without close inspection.
But to my point people were still confused about what the part is in discussion, which is understandable as there's 21 pages.

It’s pretty easy to see the ultra screen with a flashlight, been doing it for years. I look at all my filters that way inside. Sometimes I see quite a bit of dust. So maybe a filter should get a touch of shop vac before install. Well yes it’s like the commercial poking fun at old folks habits, if you know the one.
