The New Fram Ultra......

Updated box says the change will be on the Titanium also.

Updated box? Where did you see that? I was in one of my local AAP stores recently and they were low on a lot of different Titanium filters and I did wonder if they stopped replacing certain stock, ahem filters with the metal screen, and were awaiting the new version without the screen. I'd still use a Fram Force or Tough Guard but I'm no longer going to use an Ultra or Titanium unless I know it has the wired backed synthetic media. I'll stick with Royal Purple filters if I want something meeting that criteria.

Post #382. The Titanium has it's own unique box design, so if the updated box shows no screen any longer (like the new Ultra does), then sounds like the screen will be removed from the Titanium also.

Maybe we can launch ransomware against Fram demanding the wire backed media otherwise they can't get their website back??? 🤣🤣🤣Just kidding of cou

Perhaps it's better if we move on from the Fram Ultra?
First Group never responded to my e-mail. I have a few filters left and will migrate to Royal Purple or Amsoil. They lost my fleet...

ZeeOSix, just a point of clarification. The Titaniums were in the new boxes which didn't have the screen. I checked and the filters did in fact have the screens..dichotomy.

If the boxes for the Titanium no longer show the screen backing, then the change is comming.

Right now you can find some old Ultras with the screen in the new boxes too, like I found at Walmart a few days ago (XG10575). Other people here have found the old Ultra in the new box. Fram is in the middle of the switch over it seems.

I just bought a new fram ultra on amazon lets hope it has that metal screen

I bought a few filters from Rural King, they had several boxes with 2017 and 2019 copyright dates, maybe when I run out in 3 years they'll still have some.

FRAM had a hard time ditching the "Orange Can of Death" mantra, and it took years to re-invigorate their image, thanks largely to their excellent FRAM Ultra line of filters. If anything, they should have improved it and increased the price slightly. I don't think that a lot of thought was put into the decission of cutting the quality of the FRAM Ultra spin-on filters. I hope that someone from FRAM can tell us with a straight face and without any shennanigans that this is an improvement, rather than a change meant to bolster their bottom line.
They have responded to a number of emails from vendors which have been posted on this thread. In short, all evidence points to this being a product improvement; FRAM noted that they managed to increase filtering efficiency without negatively effecting flow.

I’m currently running the new style without noting any issues.

It's an "improvement" that we, their customers, didn't ask for. You know what many of use wanted, at least in the Ultra/Titanium lines of products? A thicker can so that it won't easily bend when you grab it. It's ridiculous how some of these FRAM Ultra spin-on filter bend with the slightest push. Yeah, I wonder why we couldn't get that sort of improvement...

You need to take that up with all the complainers on this site who don't want to pay $14-$15 for a product with a heavy duty can. I'd bet my bottom dollar that the same people who complain about the price of a filter with a heavy-duty can also complain about the fact that Fram's cans aren't heavy duty for $9-$10. You can't have it both ways, you get what you pay for 😉

I'm okay with paying $15, even up to $20 for a filter. I don't go to Starbucks and I can forego other stuff that eats up small amounts of money that adds up fast. Having a good filter is important to me.

On that note, Purolator BOSS is made with thicker steel and the can is heavy duty. But their media is so-so and their ADBV can fail sometimes, no clue why, but it happened to me before when I used their filters. When I discovered Purolator BOSS filters I was blown away by their heft. Now, if FRAM could have their media in a can like that, instant winner!

Purolator seems to have issues with not deburring the underside of the tapping plate and leaving burrs on the oil inlet holes that slice the ADBV.
