Something needs to be done with truckers

Well there's where you've got it all wrong.

Respect is earned, never deserved.

But maybe I've got it wrong in today's entitlement society.

Why would I respect cowboys who change down multiple gears to run a red light at full noise ?

Who pull out into the fast lane without checking their mirrors or the cars half way along their trailer, who are forced into oncoming ?

The guys who are doing the stuff I pointed out don't deserve any respect as they are acting like they own the road, and they're breaking the laws. Truckers have always been on time limits. That's no excuse for them acting like complete heathens....

I don't think you do. I just didn't like the job...I doubt that's why you think I'm no longer a truck driver...

What an absurd comment. You're trashing truckers as though they are all the same.
Consise that basically all goods found in every store arrived there on a truck and you quickly realize there are 10s of millions of them on the road every minute of every day.
So using that figure exactly what percentage do you think are the doing what your whining about.
Don't buy any goods then if you've got such a problem with them. Simple.
The trucking industry is extremely competetive and a lot of these guys can't afford a motel for the night. So of course they have to sleep in their trucks.
Then consider they might be in the middle of nowhere when they reach their driving hours limit,so do tell grampi where exactly would you like them to park to sleep. They are hardworking guys who are just trying to make a living and the industry is cutthroat and the law is always right behind them.
If you don't like their practices complain to the proper authority. Maybe you can get the entire industry to change so they don't have to work their butt off to make a living.
Expect to pay more for those products you use though. Because if their costs go up by sleeping in hotels and renting a lot to park in that cost gets passed on to the consumer.
Whining about it isn't going to make it better however maybe you need a hug

Years ago I knew and sometimes rode along with a couple truckers-they were pros that drove 30-40 years=those days are mostly gone now. I think this discussion is mostly the effect of areas of too much population and traffic as bad drivers in general cause more problems with full highways.

Usually it's the general public who made the truckers how are they. Nobody is going to stop and let a 70ft rig make a left turn so that's why they just go for it and you can wait. People cut them off with no care in the world. I see plenty of 18 wheeler trucks 70mph in Houston. Cause I have to 75-80 to get by them.

I agree with you 100%. It's been happening here fast enough that one can actually observe the phenomenon in progress.

I'll never understand why passenger cars hover alongside a truck or tailgate. Apparently they have never witnessed the happenings of a fresh road gator at 75mph.

When's the last time you flashed the high beams to let a trucker know you were about to pass and got a blink of the hazards back? Attitudes have changed. Why I don't know.

I never understood this concept.

I always stay to where I can see their mirrors.

I have found them to be courteous though. They always get over (when possible) when I merge onto the highway or interstate.

Every profession is filled with good people, and also a few clowns just for good measure also.

In many jobs, the clowns can often float along without the general public even knowing it.

Some professions, the clowns become immediately apparent. Like policing, most officers are good. However, when one clown acts up, we all know about this right away. Makes the rest look bad.

Some bribed their way to a commercial license, but many passed the test but are just lousy drivers.

The good drivers go unnoticed because they don't pull stupid stunts.

Think about this: How do you like to drive a slow vehicle 10-12 hours a day, 350 days a year for not much pay ? You're on the road away from your family, sleep on the vehicle and eat non-home-cook meals most of the year ?

Give truckers some rooms, without them we would be in big problem with everyday needs. The vast majority of truck drivers are very courteous, only very few(less than 0.1% ?) are not so nice. Probably after so many hours on the road they get cranky.

Amazing the number of whiners in this thread. Want to see a bad driver? Look in the mirror. When are we going to fix the stupid passenger car drivers?

EVERYONE should be REQUIRED to ride in an 18 wheeler for 1 day.You will change your attitude and thoughts trust me.Everyone hates the trucks but we all love all the stuff we have, brought to us and the stores by trucks. With out trucks the world basically stops moving. And yes there are a lot of morons driving trucks and just as many driving four wheeler's that shouldn't be,and I deal with them at my job,we call them steering wheel holders because that's about all they can do.If you ever get the chance to drive one go for it ,nothing like driving a 70-90 foot long truck and trailer.Be safe out there.:)

amen to that.

+1, my main goal while driving is to spend as little time as possible driving next to or around semi trucks.
