Something needs to be done with truckers

Many moons ago when I was driving a rig, a lot of the big trucking companies were importing drivers from India. I have seen five in one truck teaming the runs. Wheels never stop rolling except for fuel and drops. And like somebody already mentioned about NAFTA, Mexicans are loading in Mexico, and going to Canada all the time. And a lot of them are loading in the states, and going to Mexico, and they can't speak a word of english. And what makes me madder than a hornet about this NAFTA [censored] is that the Mexican government is subsidizing the Mexican truck drivers fuel.

I can tell you one thing, and this is for sure. There is no way in heck I am running that right hand lane near big cities. Just too much traffic getting on and getting off, and it's really dangerous for the truck driver and the 4-wheelers.

Anyway, sure there are bad truck drivers out there because I have seen them myself. But on the other hand, there is way more 4-wheelers that are bad too. Some people just want to own the hammer lane, so just deal with it, and be patient. Just way too much traffic. Sooner or later they will get that big fat ticket.

By and far the worst, most dangerous drivers on the road are in passenger vehicles PERIOD. Yes there's plenty of idiot truckers but for every idiot there's 100 insane people in a passenger vehicles texting or putting their make-up on at 80MPH.

I know the OP hates truckers and we all have a trucker frustration story but as a whole they are better drivers by far than the average passenger car.

Don't judge a person until you walk a day in their shoes.

Yep, I've seen it plenty on the two lane highways. One truck trying to pass another. Took about 15 miles.. I thought they were fighting for poll position. Could be the governed engines. There were a line of cars of course 15 miles back, wondering [censored].

Plus, they have to deal with all the crackheaded public motorists passing them and drving like outlaws because they hate truckers. I give them the benefit of the doubt because they're doing a hard job for low pay and I personally like my grocery store and other stores stocked with stuff I need and want.

Agree.

Lots of fools out there on the interstates and most of them aren't driving commercial trucks.
A rig does take up a large amount of road space and does command a level of deference that another mere car doesn't, but most of these guys drive sensibly.
I don't especially like being held up by a truck passing another truck, but then guys driving really fast cars may not appreciate me holding them up either.

There are some bad truck drivers but the idiots in cars and pickup far far outnumber them. Nine times out of ten when you see a truck driving erratically it's because he's trying to maneuver around idiots in a Prius or similar blocking the Interstate. Around here trucks can't drive in the left lane of 3+ lanes. I doubt it legal in any other state.

Let's take all truck drivers off the road, clearly that is the solution.

Then people here would by crying because their twinkies and cocoa puffs were out of stock at the grocery store.

Man up and deal with it. People are stupid AND they reproduce, deal with it.

The replacement of rail with JIT infrastructure is the reason for the proliferation of trucks on the road. Prior to that trucks ran short distribution runs from depots which was much easier on our roads and didn't cause the congestion currently seen on our highways.

Cheap fuel and lack of foresight (regarding fuel going back up) was one of the major driving factors. Not having to warehouse/stock significant quantities of goods due to shorter turnarounds on a truck vs a train was another.

+1 I'm sure that everyone in this thread thinks they are a perfect driver but the reality is that there are more idiot drivers of passenger cars than truck drivers. I salute the truck drivers who have to put up with the idiots on the road every day.

I realize most people on here dont know much about trucks, except they are big and annoying. I have some experience in them. Let me share. First of all the loaded tri-axles (AKA Dump trucks) do not stop quickly. You really have to plan your stops when loaded. I know that may be hard to comprehend, but its true. You dont just press on the brakes like a car (loaded) and stop. Empty Tri-axles, totally different story. Now its a over sized go-cart. It will way out maneuver a car and takes turns faster and stop quicker. It was nothing to go around a curve at 70 in a empty truck. Trucks are geared different, they also can have their speed governed. You usually wont find that on dump trucks, but most company trucks are. Trucks have to get runs at hills. I would commonly "HOG" the road near a hill. Cars want to go down the hill 65 and up the hill 65. I want to go down the hill 85, so I can go up the hill 55. There is alot going on in there. Most trucks can have 8 to 18 gears. Think your 6 speed is fun? There is alot more then sitting in there, putting it in D and pushing the brake to stop. Empty, they weigh 13 tons, loaded they can legally weigh around 36 ton, but I have been over 50 ton. Dont get caught. Yes, police do pull over trucks and they actually lay for them and the fines are much higher. Just try to see the reason the truck is doing what it does. Also, they don't ride very nice either. I spent 13 years in a tri-axle and had to get another job, becuase my back and neck were so screwed up, so I moved to Florida. The jars are un-nerving, so if they are in the left lane, its probably cause its smoother.

Need more drones for those deliveries.

Rail is making a comeback. CSX recently built a new yard around here to handle container traffic. The increased train traffic through town has the locals all upset. Even made CSX set up "silent crossings." You can't make people happy. More trucks = mad. More trains = mad. I have to remind people the rails were here before the city.

People here always go overboard. Nobody wants all the trucks off the roads, that's ridiculous, but I don't think it's asking too much for semi drivers to not act like they own the roads...

That's because I spend a lot of time driving on the highways and having to deal with these doosh bags all the time...

Maybe they are "New Americans" like our "New Canadian" drivers.

It doesn't matter how they got here, their demographics or situation.

How bad can it really be if you lose a minute or two on your commute?
