Some clown in a Prius....

The older I get the more I don't care. Life's too short to get worked up over this stuff.

I suppose it also helps to drive at times in either mode. Over the winter months I often slip into eco mode, and try to make the mpg's. In summer I often slip into a "make-time" mode, and camp out in the left lane (going fast that is, not being a left lane bandit). I also bicycle over the summer months. Unfortunately, I've never driven a big rig... unless if you count a 24' U-Haul. Regardless, having been those different modes, I get to see it from each of the sides.

And generally don't care as long as I make it home.

Just the nature of the beast. I didn't intentionally smoke the guy out. I just wanted to get away from the iddiot and it was very satisfying to see his lights through the smoke.

I realized you weren't replying to me but I just wanted to clarify that my comment on smoking, soot spewing diesel trucks was aimed at the huge plumes coming from late model turbodiesels that are obviously either tuned or have some kind of problem. Was not targeted at this kind of unintentional "poetic-justice" situation on a truck in decent shape.

I'm sorry but this does not read like a funny story to me. Maybe he cut you off unsafely or intentionally, and locking brakes (along with maybe laying on the horn) is appropriate and satisfying, but come on..:

Exhibit A: "I sat through the hole [sic] green light..."
Exhibit B: "Lol this hybrid owners have a chip on their shoulder..."

Uh huh... I don't think what you did there improved anything, personally. Let the moment of anger pass and drive on. People do stupid things, sometimes on purpose, sometimes by accident, and sometimes for reasons you may not understand since we never have all the information about what's going on with other drivers. JMO.

Honestly, I make a judgement call based on what vehicle I'm driving (my car vs my bike, vs my gf's car or bike, for example), and how much liability would be mine if I nailed them in the middle of the intersection when they pull out with no room to spare.

When I'm on the bikes, I will usually just go around them at the time of the intersection violation, blaring my horn, and accelerating like only my bikes truly can.

Guess what? My bikes get better mileage than their Prius does, even if they are hypermiling, and yet I still can keep up with, and leave traffic behind.

My car, on the other hand, doesn't get good gas mileage, even if I hypermile it, but its more on the fun to drive category than their Prius is, by several magnitudes. Passing a Prius in the RX-8 has never been an issue, and never will be.

Now, if I'm driving the gf's Fiat 500, then I wait for a good quality chance to get around them. Chances are, I'm getting the same gas mileage they are, yet I'm doing it with way more style, and fun points.

After all that is said and done, I HATE the people who buy diesel pickup trucks, and immediately modify them so that instead of nice clean exhaust coming out the tail pipe, they are spewing out toxic [censored] that burns my lungs. Much worse to deal with these genius' when I'm on the bike, because at least if I'm in the cars, I can set the HVAC to recirculate.

And here, in the Denver Metro area, there's a 65% chance that every pickup truck you see is diesel powered. They run better at altitude with the factory turbos, which means there's just that many more black cloud of death spewing morons running around loose on the streets.

The biggest losers are almost always driving jacked up white Ford's, at that. Don't know why, but these guys are always willing to force me out of my lane because their bigger, even if I'm on my bike. They just don't care about anyone else's life but their own.

BC.

The only time I stereotype someone based on their car is when it has serious body damage, and they do something stupid. All I can think is "no wonder why your car is wrecked"

Wow, you sure showed him who was boss, eh? I mean, what is it with these types that just refuse to see the superiority of a pickup truck? Especially a diesel truck?

I bet he pulled over down the road and just sat for a minute contemplating the error of his ways, and just how right you were to act the way you did. And even if he didn’t get it right away I’m sure the lingering diesel fumes only served to bring the point home. I mean come on! You have a diesel!

Your punishment for this post is you must use 20W-XX oils from this point forward.

Aside from who is right or wrong here, I really do hate people that do that. If your plan is to go grossly below the speed limit wait until all the normal people who have places to go, have gone by.

PSA rant over.

I used to drive a Prius almost exclusively. I dated a girl who owned one and if we traveled anywhere, we'd use the Prius. What I liked doing was driving a certain way to try and fill the battery to max capacity as shown on the LCD screen. It's difficult to do unless you're on a highway or other open road, and you don't drive particularly fast. It was the only thing that was remotely enjoyable when driving that miserable car.

So gents, when you see a slow Prius driver, he might be doing that because it's the only thing that's keeping him from just going head on into the opposite lane.

How's it vice versa? The Prius driver instigated the whole thing. I'm sure there are some people who loathe Prius drivers without any good cause, but I think it is much more often the other way around.

Not sure who was the greater tool here.

Interesting how several short months changed a lot how people drive in my area. It used to be that people would make all kinds of attempts to change a line or pass me when i drove my prius at my usual speed (10 mph above the speed limit).

Now, I have to do it a lot and pass lots of pickups and SUV crawling below speed limits and accelerating very slowly. The bigger the truck/SUV the slower it goes. I still drive my usual 10 mph above the speed limit. I was recently stopped by policeman who thought my driving was unusual with frequent lane changes. All I did was to drive around slow cars on both lines of 2 line hwy.

I guess some people feel the squeeze at the pump.

LOL...yep, I've seen that car before.

I don't blame Chris for passing him. I definitely would have. 38 in a 55 is ridiculous.

Most Prius drivers around here do not drive slowly. Actually, I can usually deal with the Prius drivers just fine. I've learned to look out for the blue badges on the back of the Sonata Hybrid though. Those people drive slow as [censored]. No offense to Sonata Hybrid owners on BITOG, maybe it's a local phenomenon.

I didn't apply the vice versa to who started the whole thing.
I only applied it to the pickup driver also having pre conceived negative thoughts about hybrid/prius drivers. His post clearly shows that driving slow and cutting in front of him was not the only thing that made him angry about the Prius driver. See his comments about the stickers on the prius, etc, on his original post.
It's 100% clear he hates the hybrid/Prius people even if they didn't drive badly. (just like the Prius driver also had negative ideas about big pickups/diesels).

...hence vice versa fits.

I can usually spot the Prius' around here. They're usually in the left lane doing 20 mph over. Can't figure out why that is.

This makes me think of ekpolk, who is always bringing up the fact that most people forget that at 20 over, the Prius is *still* getting better mileage than a lot of conventional cars, even if it's not meeting its potential. Think of it like driving an M3 at 55-65 instead of 150.

I couldn't agree more. The irony dripping from this thread is ruining the paperwork on my desk.
