38 in a 55? I'd have passed him too. And then I would smirk to myself as I pictured his reaction if I slowed ton to 25 in a 55 in front of him. Wouldn't do it of course. No of course not.
Seriously though, I think that they are right, he was "punishing" you for driving a diesel truck. I definitely know people that have that kind of attitude, this "holier than thou" attitude that I DESPISE.

My aunt is like that. She will go slow on purpose in front of diesel's. And them she gets made when they pass her and blow smoke at her. She is as liberal as it gets. Most of the people with this just buy hybrid attitude Make me sick. If you want to drive a Prius fine go ahead but don't screw with people who choose other vehicles. Funny short storry a guy pulled out in front of me driving a volt. I know there's only like 10 in existence so I should have felt blessed that he picked me me to cut off. Lol. Anyway I'm going down The hill 55mph and at the bottom theres a stop sign he waits till like 100 feet before pulling out and then just put puts along. So I had to slam on my brakes to keep from hitting him and then because I locked my brakes up he flips me off. I the proceeded to pass him. And at the next light there was no one behind us so I sat throught the hole green light there was people coming on the other lane so he couldn't go around he was so angry. I was just laughing so hard. Lol these hybrid owners have a chip on their shoulder or something.
Some dude in a honda hybrid sarcastically told me that i was so cool driving a 5 mpg mustang polluting the air as i was letting my buddy hear my new edelbrock exhaust. (both parked). he then called me expletives, unprovoked. so i polluted his interior with BFG KDWS.

Nice story. Knowing that your truck put out a ton of smoke @ WOT, i would have sloooowly passed him and then nailed it when you're in front of him. That way, a nice juicy cloud of smoke would consume the poor treehugger.

There seem to be two types of prius drivers. Those that want to drive fast for lower cost and others who want to make everyone else miserable.
I commute on my bike once or twice a week. its always entertaining to be passed on the HOV by a prius doing 85mph. its easy to see their speedo because its big and digital and i sit so much higher. Saving the planet 20 over the speed limit!

Wow, you mind readers are excellent at figuring out what this guy was thinking for sure. Maybe if people all just relaxed the world would be a better place. I encounter jerks like this in all types of vehicles (even, gasp, diesel trucks and Mustangs). I also notice that they seem more prevalent when I am in the Merc. Regardless, I simply stay behind and pass when it is save. No need to worry or read minds. Life is too short for all the frustrations.

There are definitely drivers who "judge" you by the vehicle you're in. I suppose that goes both ways. But people treat me very differently depending on what vehicle I'm in. The older the vehicle and the better condition, the more people cut me off.

I got stuck behind one in the left center lane the other day. Traffic was slow at one bottleneck when I pulled behind him. I don't know why but when everybody else accelerated back up to reasonable and safe freeway speed, Mr Hybrid stays at 35 mph....on the interstate. Took me about 2 minutes to get a safe opening to pass him. I guess he's more concerned with saving the environment than he is about saving his [omitted] from gettting rear ended by a car or truck doing 70+

Sort of. When guys put a tuner on a new truck they can really smoke. My truck has not been "Turned up" and it does not have a turbo so it will smoke when accelerating.
Just the nature of the beast. I didn't intentionally smoke the guy out. I just wanted to get away from the iddiot and it was very satisfying to see his lights through the smoke.

I'm not sure their assessment is quite correct, although the result is the same. I actually think they are using the car to judge you - the nicer the car the more of a pushover you are, as opposed to Joe Six-Pack that they don't want to chance an encounter with.
