should 10W30 be used, even in the winter, instead? I read a lot here about engine noise, and high lead… Is the 10W 30 the best way to go?

if you had to use M1 and you think the 5w30 is too thin go with a 5w40.. the 10w30 is just as thin or thinner in M1. 5w40 in the summer, as for winter why not just go with a different brand if you are questioning M1? M1 isnt that bad just not as good as the hype imo...(that is merely my opinion)

The 10w30 Mobil 1 will be more shear stable than 5w40 Mobil 1. If you think the oil is to thin use another brand.

I haven't been around in a while, but last I knew, M1 5W-30 was actually thicker than M1 10W-30. You're looking in the wrong direction.

What engine & how many miles?

yep, go with the 5w40 IF you have to have M1.. me thinks you need to save $ and with a syn on sale :-)

Personally thats why i dont use it but even with some valvetrain noise i still see many cars and trucks get very high milage and clean results with moble one.

Well you can run some M1 10w-30 HM. My local CHina -Mart can't keep the 10w-30 in stock.

In my highly scientific observations, a 5W-40 synthetic acts even thinner than a 10W-30 conventional. Chew on that for awhile.

If you've been researching older threads, m1 5w-30 is no longer considered one of the thinner 5w-30 oils. It's now right in the middle @ 11.3cSt
