The car has sold to a happy young couple with a baby who will be able to utilize it's storage and cargo space.
Out of the whole ordeal we lost $150, but gained insight and wisdom when making bigger decisions. (y)

Well I'm glad buying things out of spite only ended up costing you $150 plus your time.

Can you contribute the answer to how you purchased a vehicle out of spite?

uh...especially oil and lover if one is that deep into the science behind it one would think at least being somewhat knowledgeable in the car buying business...

Nope you own it. Sell it on Craigslist or Cars.com or whatever other marketplace suits your needs

Hopefully you didnt pay more than $1.5K over Galves Black Book auction value.

What year is the car? They (the Japanese ones) are cheap entry level cars with a decent engine and spindly, fragile suspension.
a 15K car being sold for over 18K new. I know, as I owned a 2012 Sport as it was the only MT new car I could find within 50 miles.
and I was then commuting to work 23 miles every day > one way.

I'm sure the car will work fine as a car for you, if you are going to take a loss.

Why doesn't it work for you ? Sounds like you made a rash decision.

If you want to dance, you have to pay the fiddler!

UPDATE; Didn't see the post you sold it. Good. You only lost $150. That is amazing. But if you bought it a tad under market you could sell it privately at market. Used car parices ar silly high. I dont see anything good being marketed even CLOSE to KBB suggested private sale value.

And we need the back story filled in - or you will be BANISHED in our Minds and Hearts - at the very least!

Six pages and no resolution! :)

SPITE

I did this out of spite about 15 years ago.

I bought a nice $350 straight shaft weed whacker. Echo IIRC. Two stroke engine. From day one it required about 6 or 7 pulls to start. Annoying. Over the next couple of months it got even harder to start requiring me to eventually use aerosol strarting fluid to get it running. What was once only annoying had now become a PITA.

One afternoon I went to use it and couldn't get it started no matter how many times I tried. Foaming at the mouth angry, I heaved the 3 or 4 month old weed whacker across the yard and went about other business in the yard. After completing my other tasks, I tried starting it once again. One way or another I was going to get that thing started!!!!!

After 20 or 30 enraged pulls it finally started. Yay! But now I had my opportunity. While it was running I drained the oil/fuel and quickly refilled with straight gasoline (it required a 50:1 oil mix). With the tank full of straight gasoline I zipped tied the hand trigger to wide open throttle. I was going to seize that freaking motor!

Surprisingly it ran and ran and ran, the unit screaming at WOT for 30 minutes or more but smoking and stinking of hot metal and plastic. Angry that it wouldn't die, I got my 15 pound sledge hammer and power slammed that POS right on top of the cylinder head. That killed it. Mission accomplished.

No regrets. I developed a genuine hatred for that weed whacker. It deserved to die.

That is spite,

Scott

PS The Honda replacement I've had since starts on the second pull EVERY TIME, no matter how cold it is or how long it's been sitting. It still has the original air filter and spark plug in it!

Despite what others in this thread say, they are a refined, well-designed and well-built small car (which is the reason for their premium in the used market).
I live in New England and the front suspension didnt hold up to the crowned and windy and bumpy roads around here. Cheap stamped sheet metal suspension and Struts the diameter of Pencils. Of course I think only a B body mid sixties GM would hold up around here.
The engine L15A7 is strong and is used in race cars ( Formula FORD) and pulls when revved to the moon. Just have a good, real synthetic in there. Whats bad? Spark plugs way under the windshield with coil - pack going through the exhaust runners. What could go wrong here? Yes it Does go wrong here. Valve lash is hard to check and adjust also due to engine sed back under the cowl.

The Yaris 3 door was just as much fun, similar quality, and 7 grand cheaper!

I have snow tires on steel rims with mounted snow tires for a FIT in my basement in minus 2 sizing.

Got to get them on Craigslist asap.

Uhhhhhh, should I tell him?

SPITE: You can trade a car that you know is going have major issues at a Dealer that is notoriously bad and has shafted you in the past.
I think I did this once or twice. I don't think it worked out for either one of us;

A Loose - Loose, net-negative game.
