EPB (electronic parking brake) story

Glad you got yer Nickelback.
Who uses coin change anymore? It is Apple wallet, Venmo and PayPal. Lol.

By ur post, it got me thinking that you serendipitously discovered a new theft prevention mechanism better than the Club steering wheel lock for Kia/Hyundai automobiles. How long did it take the technician to discover the nickel? U already mention u spoke with the service advisor but there was no resolution except for a flat bed tow to the dealership. Security is about frustrating would be thieves.
Making lemonade out of a lemon situation.

My mom's current Escape has an electronic parking brake. There's a procedure in the owners manual to retract it for service.

It does not work. Brake jobs have to be done at the dealer or a shop with an actual scanner.
Yeah, I tried the procedure outlined by CarCareNut (on youtube) and it seemed to not work. Thankfully a few other vids indicated that it's just a 12V DC motor. So at least for the Toyota's I currently own, that's what I do, I don't bother with the procedure. Just remove the wheel, pop the connector off, clip lead to an SLA.

If I wasn't so lazy, I'd buy the mating connector and an on-off-on switch, and mark it so it'd be a snap to wind out/in. Right now it's just clip leads.

Great idea. I love it.

Putting in D or R will release parking brake. Unless there's a nickel underneath the switch.
Both my Silverado and my wife's Volvo releases the parking brake when you back up or drive away. One of the mistakes guys that perform DIY brake jobs is not putting those vehicles that require (Silverado) it in to "brake maintenance mode" before working on them.

I am guessing SW is a soft SW command, so nickel or no nickel doughnut madder. On various cars EPB would not release unless I put it in gear and gave it some negative throttle. I forget how the VW Jetta 6 MT acted. There are a few Jetta boyz on here, maybe they have experience.
