Well the wait is finally over!! The Sentra is back!! The wife got the call last night that the parts came in and it was all fixed and ready to go. They had to replace the entire shift cable plus the ends (whatever that means). I didn't get to talk to the technican so all I can go by now is what my wife said. I may get to talk to the dealer later to find out more, but right now I don't care, the Sentra IS BACK!!

The engine has been updated since the oil consumption problem as well as having a healthy hp increase.

The problem is what Nissan considers 'normal' consumption. My 02 used 1qt/1500 miles. I complained and both the dealer and corporate said that is within specs.

Wow, I've had a similar story about the shifter falling apart on my, but my case was a (believ it or not) 2001 Acura NSX, my uncle's, which I just test drove for the first time. 2 minutes into the test drive, the shifter linkage separated!! I nearly crapped my pants combined with serious disappointment. I'm not new to manual, in fact I man-handle manuals because I love to shift quickly. My other 'economy' cars have never complained and theyve seen worse! I guess i shifted too quickly (for an NSX though?)

Got it home in 3rd gear, jacked it up, removed a plastic shield that is supposed to look like ribbed aluminum on the transmission which exposed the cable shifter linkage. The vertical shift actuator... FELL OFF of the rubber grommet!! I couldnt believe this was happening, but was very relieved to see that the fix was as simple as sliding a metal collar ring back over the grommet... nice car, decent acceleration but wow... I'll never see that vehicle the same way. The interior is kinda tacky but thats another story
