E-parking brake longevity

2009 CC epb works well after 125k and counting. Had to replace the cabin switch a couple times and I still get an epb error pop up about once a month while driving. I just cycle the switch on/off which clears the error. I'd rather have a manual hand brake.

I have never understood the reluctance to use the parking brake. It is a safety device for both you and the people and property around you. Having been taught by my parents as well as a driving instructor to always use it, and having personally experienced a neighbor's brand new car roll in to our house from lack of use of a parking brake, it is just second nature to apply it each and every time I get out of the vehicle (even if I am just hopping out for a few moments.) The parking pawl cannot be relied upon as the sole thing holding your car. Even at a very slight incline, if it gives way the car will roll.

If they weren't essential, manufacturers would save the labor and money and would not install them.

My parents new car has an automatic e-parking brake. Every time they pull in to the driveway and put their car in park you can hear it engage. Sounds like a little motor ratcheting down on the rear wheel. It is pretty neat. When they start the car, and put it in gear, you can hear it let up.

Can one of you that uses the e brake daily explain to me why you feel the need to do this, assuming you aren't parking routinely on a slope?
It saves the parking pawl from wear (maybe a non issue). Plus, I HATE the feeling when you shift out of park and get the BANG feeling when the weight of the car is on the parking pawl. I've been engaging the parking brake of my cars since I started driving when I was 16.

It's called a PARKing brake for a reason.

I read all too frequently on here that the new fangled electronic parking brakes are ticking time bombs but I have yet to read of a case where one has failed. For those of you that have a vehicle equipped with one, how many miles on your car, how frequently do you use it, and have you had any issues? There are about 30K collective miles on vehicles equipped with e-parking brakes in our family and we have not experienced any issues, and they get used nearly every time the vehicles are parked.

The only place I have read they are trouble prone or a bad design is on here. So-much for credibility.

What scares me if these systems disengage when put in gear. I use my pedal emergency brake every time I have to leave wife in van with ac running as I have two dogs that love drivers seat. If you ever owned a Ford that jumped in gear then you would get in habit of emergency brake use.
If your dogs can do what you are concerned about you should tour the country with them and have them perform said operation-and charge admission.

My old Taurus would get stuck in park on a hill if I didn't use the parking brake! That was an experience.

I rented two trucks recently with electronic parking brakes. Was genuinely surprised that they worked on a hill with 6000 pounds of trailer

You missed my point. If these new electronic parking brakes release when in gear what happens when vehicles accidentally jump in gear while idling? Like I said I idle with wife and dogs in car but I have to carry extra remote as the dogs love drivers seat and already hit lock button locking me out. Let's just say my medium size dog knocks into gear would eps release? Yes it is funny seeing one dog in drivers seat and another in passenger seat as I know people have taken pictures while I go into store getting a quick item.

You have to press the brake to change gears. You also have to have your foot on the brake to release the electronic parking brake. I doubt your dogs could do that. I know some people that would have a hard time with that lol.
