PUP's fall from grace over the last 10 years?

i don’t think anything is wrong with PUP and still recommend it. i think the large issue is availability and pricing. its not OTS at wally world anymore and parts houses want a fortune for a 5qt jug.

You can find it at lots of Walmarts. I think they just stock very little of it, and it sells fast. A friend was having a really hard time finding it, and he uses it exclusively in his two cars. He was starting to sweat. I started checking on Walmart online and found they update the inventory sometime early AM overnight. So he checked the app when he woke up and started seeing it in stock. He placed a pickup order when it was available and was able to replenish his stock in a few trips. It did take a few days. Sometimes only 1 jug was available.

Just keep checking online. It'll show up. You might have to check more than one Walmart. The one closest to me never carries it.

My 02 Camry V6 hates anything mobil

Funny you say that.
Our 08 FJC has used Mobil 1, 5w30 since new. Oil changes have always been done at or before 5k.
I noticed a bit of oil smoke on startup, it doesn’t use any between changes.

Recently switched to VRP, I swear the engine is considerably quieter. The 4.0 is known to be a bit noisy.

Will see how this goes……

It seems like a lot of people have noticed that their engine is quieter on VRP.

Realize that the German Castrol 0W-30 was a BITOG Favorite for many members. The oil is not available anymore, it always stayed true.

Realize that PUP did not stay true, or we can say it changed.
There is a German-made Pennzoil Platinum Euro LX 0W-30 though. It's the only oil I use in my $125,000 Mercedes.

I've been using different PP products for years in extreme conditions and it has outperformed other big name brands I have used. I regret not using it earlier.

Has it lost credibility? Not to those who know and have real engines in extreme conditions.

I don't own (or want) a $125, 000 Mercedes (or any Mercedes for that matter), but I do believe my Toyota with 276k miles has a "real" engine also. And it's made it that far without any German made Euro whatever.

Outperformed by what metric?

I assume this is an E class?

It’s my understanding VRP is GTL? That would make VRP a no brainer for me.
Would love for someone to confirm that, I forget where I read or heard that.
But I am hooked on VRP now even if it’s not GTL.
PUP is difficult to find as said before.

I would like that confirmation myself. I'm still looking for the definitive list of all PCMO that are GTL based.

BTW, I couldn't find the GLE on the list, but another list of no driver fatalities (there is no list of any death in the car), also includes the Kia Sorento. So, esteemed company here.

My local Walmart has Pennzoil Ultra Platinum again. Going to be using it for the wife’s and my moms car this oil change cycle

Valve train noise. When drained it looked as thin as water. No other oil i have used did this. Not scientific but i know my engine and it did not like PUP.

PUP took off because of the natural gas hype and Project Farm oil races. All that’s worn off now. I did try it back in 2012 in a Subaru and the oil consumption went through the roof. Nothing scientific but never tried it again, I’m sure it’s fine.
Oil comsumption? Dude GTL gas better volatility than PAO even.
Looks like that oil does not want to be in that BMW
