I got a price of the Kohler engine to repower my Toro Timemaster of just over $600 from Small Engine Warehouse. I think the engine from Kohler comes without a gas tank so that's an add on.

Any other places? And not interested in an engine from HF.

The exact engine is a Kohler CV224-3002.

Parts Tree lists the 224 engine as discontinued and they no longer have it available. They do have ALL the parts for the engine, however.

I'm a cheapskate, so I'm wondering if you ventilated the crankcase or if your existing motor could be fixed up?
The current engine has an issue with the gas tank. Probably need a new gas tank for around $100.

It's also underpowered. This one is listed as a 180. The current Toro Timemaster is a 220.

So no matter what I do, the mower is underpowered and bogs down in grass pretty easily. It's a 30" wide mower so not your typical 21" walk behind.

It's a great mower but needs more power.

Wow, I looked it up the CV224-3002 and it's only only a 6hp motor. That does seem a bit low. I have an old 36" Ransomes Bobcat walk behind with a 14.5 hp Kohler Command that has the perfect amount of power for it's size and weight. Sounds like something in between those numbers would be better.

The current B&S engine is 190cc. Unsure how many HP.

SEW was originally started by Roy Padgett back in 1974, and eventually (10 years ago or so?) his sons performed a hostile takeover and pushed him out of the business he made. Roy moved about 15 minutes away and started RP Sales & Service. I’m sure they’d be happy to take some potential business back from his sons… 🤣

Well their email is full. So an error sending email. I will call Monday.

the latest toro timemaster has the briggs 223 cc 10 tq engine.

Lots more power than the 190 cc engines with 7-9 ft lbs
