I have had several similar Mustangs. This one is going to be great with a general cleanup and fresh paint. Considering what you paid, it will be a great value! If it were mine, I'd have a lot of fun with the paint and personalize it.
I'd ditch the K&N, except on maybe some sort of track day. When I used a K&N, I got no increase in performance, but a huge increase of dirt in my oil.

It's good that you are a Mustang guy and can apparently do what is needed to bring this back into semi decent condition.
Looks a little rough? To me it's a horrid abused mess but for the price maybe not since you can do the work. I hope it goes well for you.

Had a '94 GT myself a few years ago with the AOD transmission.
Was getting on the interstate from onramp in a mild rain. I'm guessing the transmission kicked down from 4th to 2nd at about 35 mph.
Next thing I know, the car has swapped ends, and I'm facing oncoming traffic on the interstate. I really don't remember how I got it turned back around.
Sold it the next day. Completely stock car with practically new tires.
I've been a state champion drag racer in cars with over 2 1/2 times the horsepower. Owned Corvettes, Z28's, Chevelle SS396, and an ElCamino SS454. Never had anything that unpredictable to drive.

Did the first oil change yesterday. Used Valvoline MaxLife NextGen 10W30 and a Motorcraft FL-1A filter.
Whoever changed the oil last rounded off both the drain plugs, luckily I worked on Saturday and picked up 2 F75Z-6730-BA replacement factory drain plugs. The drain plugs in there were also the wrong ones, they used a flat washer to seal instead of an o-ring. BTW anyone that hasn't had the pleasure of changing the oil on a Fox body or 5.0L SN95 there are 2 drain plugs, and the front one seems to drain right onto the front anti-sway bar.
Also discovered some leaks that have to be corrected before I do any track days. Looks like the oil pan and front crank seal are leaking.
Also found the vacuum line that runs from the tree on the drivers side by the master cylinder to the line that goes into the cabin for the A/C mode door was broken. Gonna fix that tonight with a new soft line and new connectors. I capped off the line off the engine yesterday and the idle was dramatically better. Hopefully when I fix the line I will have A/C *fingers crossed*. Yes I realize that when I make it into a track only car the A/C has to come out, but if i can MacGyver a fix until then I am all for it.

For the pan gasket, make sure you get the one-piece Felpro silicone one!

One more little tidbit on these cars: Everybody thinks that OBDII started on all '96 model cars. Not entirely true. The '94 & '95 Mustang V6 cars had the OBDII connection. However, the '94 & '95 Mustang 5.0 liter were still OBDI. (I think a few other manufacturers were also experimenting with OBDII a year or two early on some selected models)

^^^This is how I got a great deal on a Dale Earnhardt Edition Termi. The guy had bought it for his kid at 18 (!) and the kid spun it on an entrance ramp right in front of a trooper.
The trooper was kind enough to contact the kids dad and thus the car was for sale with 6000 miles on it. BEAUTIFUL car.

Little Update
Fixed the Odometer over the weekend. I bought the replacement gears from Late Model Resto. Took the cluster apart, replaced the gears and all the bulbs, 194 and 37 bulbs. Then I used Meguirs PlastX on the clear screen. Got it all back together with a new headlamp knob (destroyed it on the way out) and all is well.

I want to get a 2004 or 05 once the prices come down on those. The 04+ have more legroom and I am 6'7". I do like that generation that you have, just not enough room for me to live with.
