So it's been a while and I've completed a major tune up on my 04 Volvo S60R w/160,000 miles and have decided to keep her. So I'd like to get some thoughts on what would be the "best" oil in the world of there is no "best" oil!

1. Vehicle: 2004 Volvo S60 R - 6 spd. Manual
2. Owner's manual: 2004 when the R was introduced 10w 30 (model years 05-07 5w 30)must be a fuel savings thing.
3. Where I live: Maine
4. How you drive: Average speed 38 mph on my 300 mile a week commute (average driving)
5. What your daily drive is like: Round trip to work about 45 miles mostly backroads; no stop and go.
6. Whether your car has any known problems: Just completed major tune up with no issues.

I prefer synthetic and want to know if any of the so called high mileage oils are worth considering. I change my oil every 7500 miles and use an OEM Volvo oil filter. During the 7500 miles between oil changes the car uses less then a quart of oil

Just looking to see if there are any new oils out there worth considering. I've used everything from AMSOIL to Mobil to Pennzoil, etc most of which I've found at either NAPA or Walmart. Thanks.

I would go with any 5w-30 synthetic of your choice. I do not see a need for HM oil or anything really expensive. Pick your favourite and use it! HTH.

M1 0W40. It doesn't satisfy your energy saving criteria, but it's incredibly good oil. And you can get a five quart jug of the stuff for around $26 at Wally World. At that prices, it's an incredible bargain.

Napa Synthetic, which is on sale this month for $3.49/qt. It is rebranded Synpower.

If you want a HM oil, consider either M1 HM or Maxlife. The Maxlife can be either the full synthetic or the blend; even the Maxlife blend meets ACEA A5.

How does 0W-40 compare to 5W-30 on cold flow?

Thanks for the replies; I'm sort of wondering about the Mobil 1 0w-40; wasn't really concerned on energy savings since in normal summer driving I'm averaging 26.7 mpg and winter it drops to 24.5 or so. Finding the Mobil 1 0w-40 in Wally World around this area is not that easy....I've only seen it once. I end up going to Napa who charges a bit more. Almost as much as AMSOIL 5w-30 or 5w-40.

0W-40 is not needed in the cold winters of Maine for your application.

Stick with a 30-weight such as 0W-30 or 5W-30.
