Redline 10w-30, should I change now?

I'd guess this has been covered but I can't find it in search.

I've got a high-revving Honda NA street/track car. I put redline 10w30 in it 2 years ago. Over the last 2 years I did maybe 3 track days in it in the first few months after I changed it. It's also gotten about 3000 miles of mixed use street, highway, backroads, but mostly highway because I have to drive so far for the fun roads. It's also sat for times, maybe 2 months at the longest period. I try to drive it monthly.

I usually change the oil once a year, but I haven't been driving it much over the last couple of years. The oil is still pretty clean but I don't know about the additive packages. I want to do another track day this weekend.

Question is, I've been told redline should be good for 7500 miles even driving like I am, but not necessarily with letting the car sit for a couple months at a time, the additive packages may separate.

So, 3 track days, 3000 miles, 2 years with some down periods in between. Change it, which is a PITA today due to scheduling, or just run it this weekend and do a UOA with Blackstone and hopefully get the data back before the next track day 10 days from now?

I would definitely take an oil sample. If you take the sample ask for Pore Blockage Test to get ISO Particle Counts. If this is a high number, (ie) 19-16-14, the comments on the lab report will indicate to change the oil. When you run at high revs, you use a significant amount of air in through your intake, the tracks have high concentration of silicates that get stirred up from all the cars. These silicates, are abrasive and get through the air filter and end up in the oil. These cause significant wear. The particle concentration of dirt and wear particles could be 3-5 times more than daily street driving, much lower revs.

You may have some shear degradation with high revs & oil will oxidize even in ambient temps if you live in a warm climate. Taking an oil sample will give you a benchmark for future drain intervals. Question: What oil filter are you running?

2yrs and 3k miles on redline? Change it. Oil is the cheapest maintenance and I wouldn’t go past 2yrs on anything, especially if you’re tracking it. Take a UOA. Curious what the environment has done with it. It’s not designed for extended intervals of mileage or time.
