Oil choice based on: Miami 2nd hottest city (avg high) in US

I believe it’s not the heat but how the engine is being worked that matters. Driving in 100F heat is not hard on a engine that is well maintained but if you are in that same heat going over mountain grades or towing or hauling loads then the circumstances have changed.

Pim Tac, yes, I've always believed it to be the case too. Kia just got me overthinking with the manual.

From your posting of the oil viscosity chart in the manual, you have many viscosity choices. The KIA tech guy mentioned the chart and said "your choice" based on chart data. Pretty clear that KIA doesn't lock you down to 5W-20 by being "CAFE Police".

I'll be looking for the full synthetic VOA. To see how add-packs differ from the synblend and Castrol Edge.
