I was impressed. So much so that i may just let them carry out the oil changes with their semi-syn or bring my own syn.

-SM and GF-4 or above

-5W-20, 5W-30, 10W-30 recommended
-Oil cap says 5W-20
-Total Oil is the contracted brand recommended
-3750 severe
-7500 normal

*As long as the oil meets API and ILSAC recommendations, that is all that's needed for non-turbo. -KIA Motors

lol what’s “above” A5/B5, does A3/B4 qualify?

A3-B4 is a outdated spec from what I know.

Congrats on a stunning vehicle. Your dealership sounds like a good outfit too.

*I let my Hyundai dealer do my first oil change - never again though : I decided to do the 2nd oil change myself and here is what I found : First , only 50% of the skid plate bolts made it back on the dealer oil change - the bolts were put back on in a "zig zag" pattern to hold the skid plate while who knows what happened to the remaining bolts ? Next , the 17mm oil pan bolt was put on with such force , I had to use a breaker bar to release it . I mentioned it to the dealer and got back some mumbo jumbo about the lowest man in the shop does oil changes but we will make it right for you . Thanks but no thanks , I'm one - and - done on dealer oil changes and prefer to see it done correctly (me) !

Of course, i had a little chat with the Svc Mgr who was very receptive to my inquiries...

Q- What default oil viscosity and brand of oil do you use?
A- We use 5W-30 in everything since we live in Florida and it can get pretty hot. The brands vary between Mobil, Kendall and Mobil1(syn).

Q- Conventional or Synthetic?
A- Synthetic Blend for everything unless the customer asks for Full Synthetic.

Q- Can i bring my own oil?
A- Absolutely.

Q- Cost of the oil change service if i bring my own oil?
A- Same as a standard service...$34.99.

Q- Is there a reason why you use synthetic blend in everything?
A- It covers all warranty requirements and makes us more efficient.

Q- What is the dealerships opinion of DIY oil changes?
A- We recommend doing service at KIA but DIY is fine if you keep all receipts.

You'll be missing out on the most exquisite, confidence inspiring glub that a 5W30 could make. If you ever come across it, shake a bottle or two and you'll see what I'm talking about

There's a few A3/B4 5W-30s out there (Castrol, Liqui-Moly, Pentosin, Ravenol) with the usual slew of European OEM approval, but you can usually only find them online. They go for around $35 a jug.

We looked at the new Sportages. Nice interior. I liked them, but my wife couldn't NOT have another MINI.

Haha... i understand. I owned a 2003 Mini Cooper S and get the appeal. ACEA isn't a must for me, that's just member Nap having a good time at my oil choice expense.

Member Nap just found the perfect oil, has all the specs you're looking for, will work in both your cars, and makes a fabulous glub too (never underestimate what a tin can will do glub wise)! Oh, and it has the elusive Esters too!

That's what I do, too. People make fun of me for it, but the receipts and spreadsheets come in handy not only for maintenance-tracking and warranty reasons, but when selling or trading-in the car.

Excellent choice. Ran that a bunch in our Sedona, only moved away from it when I wanted to do 10k OCI's without bothering with a UOA. Ran real smooth and quiet on it, and the notoriously noisy start ups were notably less "rackety" for lack of a better word.

Had I been willing to experiment and do a UOA I could probably still be running it, but opted instead to jump to higher tier name brand full syns without doing a UOA.
