Not trolling, but all things being equal, why not just use SuperTech for everything?

super tech is a good oil and i'm sure that it'll work well for many people. i believe that the average joe keeps his vehicle for about 39 months before turning it in. so yeah, if i were leasing or going to be turning in a vehicle after 3 years i'd definitely use the cheapest SP oil available. since i keep my vehicles for 15+ years i sleep better at night knowing that i have VW 504/507 in them and that the rings will not stick with 5,000 OCI's.

For me, as a long time ST user with great success, I drew the line a turbocharged DI engines. I use mobile 1 ep for the two I own and still change the oil at 3-4K. The other vehicles aren’t as challenging of an environment for oil so I’m good with ST. Also as a rule of thumb any car that was designed to use Dino oil, I have no issues using ST. As of late the ST price is so close or even higher than name brand oils I have started to steer away from it, it needs to be like 30% cheaper than Mobil for me to feel like it’s a good deal and lately it hasn’t been close.

The Mobil 1 0W-40 that was in the chart put up by Overkill, was that Mobil 1 FS 0W-40?
The two being discussed in the presentation were Mobil 1 0W-40, the PAO version, and Mobil 1 0W-40 "New Life" which was the VISOM version, this is the one that proceeded the "FS" version we have presently (but has also been revised).

How would you rate Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 which I am now using versus the other 0W-40 oils that Mobil 1 offers?

If they all have the same approvals, I'd expect them to perform similarly. Yes, M1 0W-40 was used at LeMans and Sebring, so it has a certain visible pedigree to it, but Mobil does a good job using quality components in all of their Mobil 1 oils, so those would be no exception.

Ps..for those of you who are claiming 4K OCIs max on ST oils, you are sadly mistaken. I have seen uoa on their oils and people are pushing their regular synthetics north of 10K miles with a little more add pack to spare. Impressive no matter who you are.
Then what is stopping you from using it if you see it is a competent oil?

I did an oil change for a friend - disclosed I’ll be using Walmart house branded oil. He was fine with it. SuperTech works fine, as much as Walmart makes me grow a mullet and turn into an, ahem, redneck.

Just started using the ST filters for my Pontiac Vibe. I started going the cheap route because im having an oil consumption issue and doing short OCIs with Valvoline Max life synth blend with 1 QT of MMO. Made no sense to buy a expensive filter for a 2-3K oil change. For under 4 bucks you cant go wrong. They are made in the USA by a company named Champion who also makes the Wix filters. Its literally a 20 dollar oil change LOL.

ST is good quality oil for sure but in today's market...at what price?
Online ST is a better deal than in WM stores where e.g., ST FS is the same price as certain M1(~$27/5qt jug)

Well of course, it doesn't have any BMW or Mercedes approvals.

Right, not on Mercedes Approved list, if it were I'd use it too. Amazon has some basic European 0w40 oils, but it's not on Mercedes approved list so wouldn't use it.

Why not? It's just a car. And it's only money. Neither is the end of the world.
An overpriced car. There's so many people out there trying to look cool driving a BMW in my neighborhood, they get boring to look at. Besides, top 10 car with high maintenance costs. Oh that's smart.

Do you have a problem with people being able to spend money? Some people choose to "waste" their money on extravagant trips and high-end restaurants. Others choose to spend it on cars. Others buy junk for their house.

It would make it even dumber if you take that expensive vehicle and use an oil without the proper BMW approval. One error does not fix the other.

And what exactly does your objection/disgust with the German marques and judgements made about those driving them have to do with the subject of this thread? This seems like a rather pointless detour.

I don't think Champ Labs makes Wix. Wix is Mann

What retailer/rebate combo is beating $25 per jug?
Walmart Mobil 5W-30 EP is like $26.47 per jug online. I just bought two of them and if you use the coupon code above, it comes to $22.59 per jug. The rebate is good for 10-quarts so you can buy them for ($22.59 + tax) - $10 rebate.

Not if you buy them used. And I'm not sure why you think they're trying to be cool. I drive a Mercedes and sometimes I wonder why the heck are people looking at me. I bought it for the options (not too many cars out there with headlamp washers) and other people for better safety, they have more advanced safety systems than most other cars even today. Plus lots of standard stuff that's an option on other cars, 3 position memory driver and passenger power seats, etc. Maintenance costs are always high if you take it to the dealer, very reasonable or even cheap if you can diy or take it to a good indy mechanic.
