Those people gave you advice. You came here for confirmation bias. You got advice and started to argue.
I told you what to use.
5W40 BAS is track oil (and drag is nowhere nearly as taxing on an engine as track is) made for “alcoholic “ engines like your tuned MB. It is also streetable oil.
Non tune MB can use ANY MB229.5. If you want best go HPL Euro 5W30, Castrol Edge 0W30, Mobil1 0W40, Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W40, Motul X-Cess 5W40 GEN2.
Castrol 5W40 you are using now is just mediocre oil and it always was.
I'm not sure what you want from me.

Your first post on my thread was the 36th post in total on the thread. And before I could even respond to say thanks you were jumping down my throat about being some kind of "dentist with a Porsche."

I'm retired military, I did 22 years in the Army (being called "kid" was kinda funny). If someone says something I think is wrong or inaccurate, I'm going to say something.

Yes, and thanks to this website I'm now aware of that, and I'm trying to make a well thought out decision on how to maintain my vehicles in the future.

Thank you for your recommendations.

A lot of people here did more time in military etc. They don’t mention it.

Again, get HPL 5W40 BAS for your tuned vehicle IF you are using E30. It is oil made for alcohol users.

If not, HPL Euro will cut it as well as any MB229.5 I mentioned.

I'll take a look at the BAS line. Thanks for the recommendation.

I gave you good advice on oil, despite your misconceptions on oil specification.

You dismissed it, thinking your Benz is special.

You quote the wrong statistics for my engine, to further your bickering, while not discussing the relevant points.

Good luck with your car, kid, I’m out.
He asked for advice then wants to argue with those giving advice.

I would use Mobil 1 10w-40 High Miles. My one M276 runs great on it mixed with 5w-30. Dial-a-Visc. My other M276 gets whatever.

That's a recipe for engine trouble. Seen it a few times. Stick to the correct approvals and HTHS.

Maybe not optimal but,

13.9 cSt @ 100*C, synthetic API SP oil. Should not be a problem with shortened OCI.
Many of the older 229.5 engines allowed 229.3 in the manual (10W-40) with shorter OCI.

I really don’t understand this. Numerous MB229.5 oils available in Wal Mart, exceptional oils, but yet, lets use oil that has additives to swell your gaskets etc.

Me neither, unless he has a barrel of 10W40 at home.
Still I don't think it will do any damage.

Short term? No. Long term? Who knows. HM oils are packed with various additives that perhaps MB does not want to see there for various reasons.
Also, previous version of Mobil1 10W40 was actually ACEA A3. This one is not.

I've got a 480hp C43, same engine. Any 229.5 5w40 works. I'm running Ravenol VST right now, but Amsoil is perfectly fine. Motul 5w40 8100 is good. Don't overthink it.

If anyone actually cares what I did.

I put Mobil 1 15w50 in it for 400 miles, then did another change with M1 15w50, it now has ~1000 miles and 9 quarter mile passes on it.

I'll probably get another 3-6 passes before the track shuts down for the winter.

I'll go back to Castrol 5w40 for the rest of the year.

This was a dumpster fire post. Any 229.5 5w40 will be fine. My C63s makes a little over 700hp running 5w40....
