Hi,

My car comes with M256 engine which requires the 229.51/52/61/71/72 spec.

I found the 229.51/52 oil is quite available in Walmart or Amazon, such as Mobil 1 ESP or Pennzoil Euro LX.

But I recently came across some discussion here that US gasoline has higher sulfur content and will cause TBN depletion in these oil. So it's not recommended to use 229.51/52 for gasoline engine outside western Europe. I'm wondering if this is still true or any first hand experience of long term use for 229.51/52 for gasoline engine in US?

I change oil ever 5K miles, maybe this doesn't matter any way?

I think a 229.5 would be just fine. 0W40 or 5W40 M1. If it really needs to be a .51 or .52 then ESP.

Mercedes has been using these oils for years in the US. The US moved to ULSG a long time ago.
