ESP/Euro Oil for Honda 1.5t

So I recently made the switch from 0w-20 to 5w-30 in my 2022 1.5t Honda Civic (using 87 octane as the owner's manual states, if that matters) at the 25k mile mark and am pretty happy with the move, engine seems a little quieter and MPG seems unaffected. I'm currently using M1 EP 5w-30 at 5000 mile intervals, and do have a good baffled catch-can installed between the PCV and Intake Manifold. However I often see people here talk about Euro oils, ESP, Mercedes and VW certifications, and am wondering if they might be a good option for me as well. I don't really drive hard, but would be open to trying something outside of the guidelines of the owner's manual again if it means a happier life for the engine and turbo and associated components.

I don't know how to compare the certifications from the US vs Europe, and if these Euro oils might have some unintended issues around LSPI or anything like that. Anyone have any guidance?

The Euro oils won't hurt anything at all, though some are harder to find than others. The PP Euro L 5w30 at Walmart is probably the most readily available ESP type 5w30.

Otherwise, any d1g3 5w30 should be good in your Fit, including the M1 EP you're already using.

What kind of driving conditions do you have? Any short trips?

It might be worth filling up with premium 91/93 octane, even though Honda says you can get away with 87 :sneaky:

Much the same here...... I prefer the Mobil EST 5W-30 but I've seen only the 0W-30. So that's what I will use for the time being.

I don’t believe that the 0w30 ESP is better than 5w30 ESP. If anything the reverse is true.
I was just expressing my opinion and my results running it for myself. I did a lot on research before using the product and have tried both with the 0W-30 working better for me.
But the 5w-30 is not a bad oil at all. The base stocks are not as good as the 0w-30 with uses GTL. PAO and the AN/Ester blend. The 5w-30 uses a regular group 3 base with the AN/Ester Blend.

It appears the changed the 5w-30 grade formula in the past 2 years to one with a potentially lower ester content based upon oxidation levels in testing. I don’t have experience with the formula prior to that.

The PP Euro L used to be widely available but not anymore. Walmart has cleared their shelves but last I heard you could order it online. Amazon stock is hit or miss, last I checked there it finally was back in stock from a 3rd party seller but the price was way too much. I wished that I would've bought more of it when all the Walmart stores had it on the shelves but lately they've really shrunk the shelf space for Pennzoil.

I'd try their regular synthetic but even at WM it's way overpriced when comparing to the PP... $23.78 vs $23.92, I'm sure maybe there's someone out there that would save the .14 cents.

Use a SP 0w30 oil. Carbon and ZDDP concerns with the environment exist. Everyone on earth knows the SN and SL oils (even 'some' Euro-types) are more stout. But I still won't use them.

What is the carbon difference. I know sp oils have lower esp levels but unless your oil is being burnt in high quantities this shouldn’t be an issue environmentally speaking.

Pardon my ignorance. What is an "esp level?"

Sorry guys I was typing a few replies earlier and didn’t realize it was autocorrecting zddp to esp. I was referring to the difference in zddp levels permitted under API sp and Euro C3 specifications.
