good afternoon,

my grandparents have a mercedes E320 CDI and want me to change the oil. it is around 40k miles i believe. i was doing so research and have narrowed in on 3 oils: M1 0w-40, delvac extreme 5w-40 or HPL supercar 5w-40.

i am completely open to other suggestions this is just what i concluded from my research.

would there be any benefit going to a HDEO add pack vs the normal euro 0w-40?

thank you!

Not really beneficial to go HDEO. If your Grandparents live were it's warm then any of the 5w-40 Euro oils with MB spec should work just fine. No need to use SuperCar unless your GP's like to go to the race track.

Great engine and car. I’ll buy it anytime ;)

Because it doesn’t have all the emissions stuff, I’d run an HDEO, though the right 229.5 spec oil would be fine too. Does HPL have an HDEO that suits your fancy? Personally I’d prefer to have an oil more biased towards soot dispersion than the supercar blend.

i’ve tried to buy it many times. it’s been garage kept since new. i think i’ll just roll with delvac extreme 5w-40. HPL would be a great idea just don’t feel like waiting for it.

When I had 2006 W211 w/OM648 the oil requirements were MB229.31, I use Pennzoil Euro I believe it was 5W30 and it is approved oil. You cannot go wrong using MB229.51/52 oils. I believe my car had DPF it is possible that 05 doesn’t.

the 05 doesn’t. you can unplug the EGR on this car without a CEL.
