Own a 2005 w211 e320 CDI.

Looking for an engine oil that meets Mercedes Benz oil spec.

Mobil 1 Formula ESP 5w-40 is no longer available.

Any recommendation is greatly appreciated

last time i changed my grandparents CDI was with M1 ESP 0w-40.

I believe it takes MB 228.3 or 229.3 oil so anything with that should do but M1 delvac esp 5w-40 is great but really any 40 grade diesel oil will do in that old but gold om648 228/9.3 rated or not. I believe only the newer mercedes diesels have some issues with hdeo oils. That has no dpf. Does it burn oil?

I think that 6cyl OM648 diesel engine required MB spec 229.5 oils, of which there are plenty. Being out on the left coast, you probably have mostly dry and stable weather/temps.

No reason why you shouldn't run a 5w40 year-round, but you could run anything from 0w30 to 5w30 to 0w40 and beyond.

Depending on your change interval, pick an oil that's easy to find and reasonably priced. No need for boutique stuff either.
